Thinking about moving my Blog

As the title says I am thinking about moving my blog totally over to my wedding website (robmoses.com). The ads on WordPress are getting out of control and have slowly been driving me more and more crazy these past few years. Sure I can pay to have them removed, but I honestly just don’t want to do that. I didn’t mind the reasonably sized ads, but the huge ones are brutal. I feel like I’m being held hostage in a way.

I get that WordPress needs to make money somehow, but the ads they put up have gotten massive now. First I get a pop up, then at the bottom of the post sometimes there is this massive ad that is as big as the post itself. I find it quite annoying and I’m nearly fed up with it.

Do these ads bother any of you? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. The main reason I haven’t already moved my blog is because some of us on here (on WordPress) have been following each other for years and I don’t want to just loose touch with you guys. I can always come back and check in on you, but it won’t be as fluid and vice versa for you following me. I know it’s easy to pop in on my blog from WordPress, but would you check in on my blog if it was hosted else where? i.e. robmoses.com/blog

Please leave a comment and let me know what your thoughts are on this because I need to make a decision on this, but you’re opinion is going to greatly influence the decision I make.

About the photos. Both of these were shot in Penticton BC.

  1. It pains me to hear that people are thinking of leaving WP, but I get it. The ads are huge. Some of them are….questionable, too. And WP makes money from this? You know, my son follows you on Instagram. He loves hockey and his fave photo is one from years ago of you burning a hockey jersey–of the opposing team! 😀 I only do WP; I have no social presence anywhere and sometimes I am really glad. It’s gotten too weird out there. So if you go off WP, I probably would not find you. 😦

    • That’s funny to think about that picture again! I took a lot of heat about that picture because that apposing team was my home team for most of my life LOL. I just had it with them and switched sides haha. . . Anyhow, ya your right, it’s got real weird out there and I don’t blame you for sticking around the place you like (WP). To be honest when I was writing that post I though of you and few other people the most. I don’t know if I’ll do it or not. I think I’m going to give it some more thought this weekend and make a decision. Tell your son I said hi ;).

  2. I hate ads on blogs. I pay not to have them on mine.
I’d like to only have 1 blog, and have considered it…. still do.
I just can’t figure All the Art Gown stuff with Street Art, in a creative sense.
I popped over to your Wedding site. It’s so gorgeous! Do you feel like a wedding post, then a non wedding/but photography post would lessen the look of the wedding ones?
It could work… do you have an idea how to incorporate the 2?
Anyway, I’ll come visit you there.
PS… I don’t see ads on this blog.

    • Hey Resa, always so nice to hear from you. And good questions. I don’t know how I would make it work on my wedding website. I used to blog a lot about wedding stuff, but to have a wedding website/blog and then have a bunch of random stuff I like I do here might be weird. Now that you put that in my head I am starting to think it might not be wise to put them together. . . Hmmm, I’m going to have to give this some more thought and see if I can come up with something that would even work. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

  3. I also pay to not have them on my blog site, so I don’t see any ads on your site…which is beautiful, by the way. I guess for you is are you generating any business on your WordPress blog site?

  4. I pay extra to not have the WP ads on my site, and I refuse to accept advertising from outside sources (including those guest posts which are thinly disguised ads). Right from the start, I felt ads detracted from the posts (especially since there was no way to know in advance what ads WP might include, and whether they’d be appropriate to the theme of my blog), and I’ve heard from several bloggers that there’s not a lot of money to be made by accepting ads, so why bother? I think between the dedicated URL and the no-ads upgrade, I spend about $50 (US) per year. For me, it’s worth the small cost.

    • Yeah not having any idea what the ads are going to be about is a little unnerving. But ya the yearly amount isn’t much, but over 10 years, it’s a lot of money. I dunno. I’ve just been here so long, it’s kind of hard to just up and leave. We’ll see, I’m giving it a lot of though here and everyones thought are helpful, so thanks.

  5. The ads don’t bother me because I usually read your blog on the WordPress site in reader mode. If I click onto your website the one at the bottom of the blog really is too big but I guess I just blank it out unless I’m looking for what they are selling.
