Adventure of a Lifetime

Yesterday I took a trip out the mountains to do a some hiking. By the time I had passed the tree line something came over me and I decided it would be fun to keep going. It was clear to me that this mountain was much steeper than any hike I had ever been on, but the challenge and exhilaration that I knew awaited me at the top was too difficult to over come. So on I went. Every time I would make a little goal for myself I would reach it and then I’d make another goal to go a little higher and then higher yet. A few minutes after I took this picture it started to rain and that was my cue to get the heck out of there.

I knew if the rocks got slippery I’d be in some serious trouble, because one good slip and certain death awaited me! The way down was a lot more scary than the way up. The rain was coming down and I knew I had to be extra careful. There was a lot of sliding involved in my decent and I got to give it up to my trusty Nike sneakers, they never let me down and stuck to the rocks when I needed them too🙂. Sunday for me was an adventure of a lifetime and I can’t wait to do it again!

Surprise Fireworks

exif data rob moses sony a7ii 70-200mm OSS f4 GI was out shooting the Calgary skyline last night when all of a sudden I noticed some fireworks popping off in the distance! Unfortunately the longest lens I had with me (and only lens) was my 70-200mm. With some extreme cropping, all turned out just fine haha.

Lighting

exif data rob moses canon 6d 300mm f:2.8Nature is awesome! Right before I took this picture I actually had my camera pointed in the opposite direction. I was shooting some photos of the Calgary skyline when I noticed some flashing going on behind me. Excited at the prospect of getting a lighting bolt picture I spun my camera around and started snapping. I love how the lighting was lighting up the clouds and sky around the immediate area. Nature can put on quite the show if you find yourself in the right place at the right time.🙂

Violet

5 Year Old Violet

Time flies when you’re having fun. I took pictures of Violet for her 2nd, 3rd, 4th and now 5th birthday! When her mom Amanda texted me about doing the photos I could hardly believe it had already been another year! I still can’t believe it. Anyhow, Violet was a super fun as she always is and was more chatty and funny than last year. Seeing how Violet has changed over the years has been amazing and having the pleasure to take her picture each time has been an honour. Thanks for hanging with me you two!😉

All photos shot with a Canon 5D Mark iii with a 50mm 1.4 & 135L

Some photos shot with a 580EX ii Speedlite shot into a white shoot through umbrella.

Summer time in the city is always the best! This is especially true for Calgary. The air is warm and the city is alive, a perfect set up for good picture taking. I shot this one on Wednesday night from Scotsman Hill. I used my Sony a7ii and Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 micro manual focus lens.

Neon

rob moses exif data canon 6d 28mm 1.8I love old neon signs on buildings. This particular one is quite wonderful. I love how this sign lights up the whole corner of the street. I shot this in Great Falls, Montana. The rest of the street was pretty dark and this little gem was a breath of fresh air in the dark night.🙂

Montana Sunset

rob moses exif data canon 6d 50mm 1.8I was down in Great Falls, Montana over the last weekend. I drove by this massive flag while I was there and knew I had to get a sunset shot with that flag. I would have liked to have also had the town in the picture, but I still like how this one looks.

Uncommon Calgary

This is an uncommon view of Calgary from the south side. I personally like the view from the north better, but every now and then I’ll head over here just to remind myself there is a whole other part of the city I rarely hang out at (and I should). This picture is definitely better when viewed at a larger size, so be sure and click on the one bellow.

Lake Louise

exif data rob moses canon 6d 24-105mm ISMy family and I took a trip out to Lake Louise this past weekend. The weather was a little spotty and strange. One moment it would be raining, the next sunny and next again sun and rain! It never started pouring really hard, so that was nice. I spotted this canoe with a large Canadian flag on it and shot this photo. I wish the flag was a little more straight, but I guess like this it shows a little more realism. Anyhow, I thought the canoe and flag made for a nice foreground to the beautiful landscape in the back.

The Instagram picture is of my son shooting a photo on this hike we did. I took that picture with my iPhone and I really like how it turned out. Pretty easy to get a good shot out there I guess🙂.

Fireworks Over Calgary

exif data rob moses canon 6d 70-200mm f4 ISHere is a little Calgary Stampede fireworks action from Sunday night. Fireworks are always a struggle to shoot. You need get a good one in the first few moments or the smoke takes over the scene and it usually doesn’t look as good. Thankfully I got this shot off before the smoke got to crazy.

Waiting for the storm

Waiting for the Storm

rob moses exif data canon 6d 50mm 1.4I shot this one on Saturday night. It had been raining all day and the clouds looked rather menacing. I thought rather than just another city shot, I might hop in front of the camera to add a little something to the photo. I was shooting with a friend of mine and he had a 430EX Speedlite on him with some Radio Poppers flash triggers, so we set the flash up. We used the one flash to camera left with a small defuser on the unit. I would have preferred it if there was more lights on in the buildings, but I still like the way it turned out.

Melissa + 4

I had the pleasure of shooting some photos with Melissa and her wonderful children last weekend. We shot these photos along a walking path in a not so busy part of a massive park in the south west of the city. I thought shooting photos with 4 children and one parent would be a little more difficult, but everyone was super easy going and it made for a nice little shoot.🙂

Pieces to the Puzzle

This picture is kind of cool because of all the action going on. At first glance you might not even notice, but there really is a lot happening. First off and most importantly, the couple walking across the bridge. Then of course the people on the boat and the other people about to launch their boat. Another important piece to this photo is the train going by in the background. I waited quite a while to get that train going by and to have a good shot of some people on the bridge before shooting the photo. All these little things might not be much interest to most people, but to me they all come together to make this picture something I can appreciate.
