Flight of The AE-1

I’m sure this idea isn’t new and there are people all over the world tossing their cameras around, but I this particular version was my idea. Location was key for this photo, as the background (even though it’s blurry) would play a big part in the over all feel of the final product. Since its winter in Calgary I thought I’d better find a place that had some contrast to the white snow everywhere. At first I was going to have a blurry city in the background, but I’m always shooting city stuff so I thought a bit of nature might be good to mix things up a bit. The trees provided the needed contrast and the glove I wore seemed to go well with the camera and over all scene. Once I had all that figured out I just stood in the snow with my camera pointed at this one and tossed it up and down until I got this shot.

Photography is so fun! 🙂

4 Brands, 1 Photo

I was just doing some example shots to show how the Pentax-A 50mm 1.7 performs on my Fujifilm X-Pro1. I kind of like the picture, so I thought I might as well share it. The camera in the picture is my Sony a7ii with a Canon 16-35mm f2.8 ii attached with a Metabones adapter. It was only the moment I decided to share the photo that I realized I had 4 different camera companies going on here to shoot this one photo haha. Kind of hilarious and kind of weird at the same time. 😜

In Camera City View

I shot this photo on Friday night from Rotary Park in Calgary. The camera in the picture is my Mamiya 645 1000s with a 80mm f/1.9. I had the camera set up on a tripod and had another tripod set up higher over the pictured camera. I shot this photo with a Sony A7R with a Nikon 55mm f/2.8 Micro manual focus lens. After my first test shot I knew I was going to need some external light, because the street light that was on in the park was super orange and the grass was a very ugly version of a pumpkin orange. Since I didn’t bring any lighting I just whipped out my trusty iPhone and used the flashlight on there to paint the scene while the 30 exposure was on. I think it all worked out pretty good!

Minolta City

I was about to toss this old camera in the trash when I I took a look at the mirror after I took the lens off. I thought it looked pretty cool with the little lines and then I though I might be able to get a good photo if I incorporated the mirror of the camera. Since I’m a city guy I thought having part of the city in the background and in the camera would look pretty cool. I like how it turned out 🙂

I shot this photo with a Sony a7R with a Nikon Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 micro.

Golden City

Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

Some pretty amazing sunsets go down around here. This sunset was one of them! The clouds kind of look like they are rolling over the city. I love catching a scene like this, with or without my camera.

Plans by Myself

Shot @ f/1.2

I shot this photo on Saturday night. I actually had plans to meet up with a friend of mine, but then at the last minute he informed me the plans were a no go. At first I thought to myself, well that sucks. Then I thought, hey no problem I’ll just make plans with myself! I grabbed my camera and headed out the door for some solo fun.

I took this picture at one of my favourite view points in the city on Crescent Road. I was shooting with my Fujifilm X-E1 and my manual focus Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 lens. I prefocused on the bench I was sitting on and hopped on the bench. It took a few tries as it always does in a situation like this, but it was good fun and I got this cool picture out of it. 🙂

Spring Nights

Lens: Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

Spring nights in Calgary can be beautiful. The city lights always do the right thing for me and this night was no different. The lights were bright and the sky was amazing, can’t ask for much more than that to take a nice city picture.

That Sunset

Canon FD 50mm 1.2 shot @f/16

I shot this photo on Saturday night. The sunset was amazing, but there was a lot of parking lot in the middle of the picture that I didn’t like. I thought I’d hop in there and maybe make the picture a little more interesting. Not to mention giving me a change to show off my cool new Cultural Blends hoodie.😜

Fujifilm X-E1 & Canon 50mm 1.2

I picked up this Fujifilm X-E1 on consignment the other day when I was down at my local camera shop. The body was there for $250, so I thought why not. At that price you can’t really go wrong. The screen has some scratches on it, but that kind of thing doesn’t bother me. I got my vintage Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 on the camera and have been testing it out for the past week. Everyday I learn something new about the camera and I think I am close to figuring out the settings so the jpegs come out the way I like. FYI, I have been shooting raw since forever, but the Fuji JPEGs are supposed to be what’s up so I’m moseying down that road right now.

The pictures bellow (except for the camera shot) are just some random shots I took with the camera. All the photos are straight out of the camera with no edits applied to the pictures. From one picture to the next I had wished I made a little adjustment here or there, but I am getting closer to what I want as the days go on. I am sure by this time next week I’ll have that thing dialled in perfect, well perfect for me at least haha.

Crazy Plants

a7ii & Canon FD 50mm 1.2

I was out taking pictures one night downtown in Calgary when I saw these crazy looking plants. They had some LED lights shinning on them and they would change color every few seconds. I though it looked kind of cool so I grabbed a quick shot. I shot this photo with my Sony a7ii & Canon FD 50mm f/1.2. I can’t remember my exact settings 100%, but I think I was at f/2.

Bright Moon Over City Hall

Sony a7ii & Canon FD 20mm 2.8

Sony a7ii & Canon FD 20mm 2.8

The moon was super bright the night I shot this photo. The natural light mixed in with the city lights of the surrounding area made for a cool atmosphere. At first I shot this photos with out the statue, but I thought it needed a little something more to keep it together. I’m happy with how it turned out. I shot this photo with my Sony a7ii and a vintage Canon FD 20mm f/2.8.

Happy Halloween

Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

Lens: Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

Now this is one heck of costume! I saw this person walking around downtown in Calgary this past weekend. I spotted this big happy looking red thing walking down the street about a block away. I quickly scurried over to the corner of the street I thought they were going to cross at, then a train went by and they were across on the other side! I ran over just in time to get the shot. Since I was shooting manual focus, it was no easy feat to get the shot in a hurry! Lucky for me it all worked out. 🙂

Montana Signs

I love old signs like this! I think the “Sports Club” sign would be particularly awesome at night. Since I was only passing through this town (Shelby, MT) I didn’t have the opportunity to get a night shot of the sign. Even in the day light this sign still has a certain charm to it. Maybe next time I’m around I’ll plan to be passing through at night. 🙂
