River Rocks

Lens: Vivitar 28mm f2 @f2

I was down by the river the other night shooting some photos. I came across this stack of rocks set up just perfectly to shoot a photo. I was using my Vivitar manual focus lens and it was the perfect lens for this shot. The lens blurred the photo just enough to give good separation from the background, but you are still able to make out what is back there. I love those blurry bits!

Plans by Myself

Shot @ f/1.2

I shot this photo on Saturday night. I actually had plans to meet up with a friend of mine, but then at the last minute he informed me the plans were a no go. At first I thought to myself, well that sucks. Then I thought, hey no problem I’ll just make plans with myself! I grabbed my camera and headed out the door for some solo fun.

I took this picture at one of my favourite view points in the city on Crescent Road. I was shooting with my Fujifilm X-E1 and my manual focus Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 lens. I prefocused on the bench I was sitting on and hopped on the bench. It took a few tries as it always does in a situation like this, but it was good fun and I got this cool picture out of it. 🙂

Bow River Night

Shot at f/16

I shot this one on Saturday night from underneath the Skipping Stone Bridge on St. Patricks Island (in Calgary). I was using my Fujifilm X-E1 with an old Canon FD mount Vivitar 28mm f/2 close focus lens. The camera and lens performed wonderfully together. This shot is straight out of the camera (other than a slight touch of straightening). Getting pictures like this straight out of the camera is the exact reason I got interested in Fujifilm cameras and I must say they are living up to the hype!

The 2nd picture I had to color correct a touch because under the bridge there are these blue LED lights and it looked really crazy haha. I didn’t spend a ton of time doing it either as you can probably tell ;).

That Sunset

Canon FD 50mm 1.2 shot @f/16

I shot this photo on Saturday night. The sunset was amazing, but there was a lot of parking lot in the middle of the picture that I didn’t like. I thought I’d hop in there and maybe make the picture a little more interesting. Not to mention giving me a change to show off my cool new Cultural Blends hoodie.😜

A Shot with Joshua

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-eos-6d-70-200mm-f4-isIt’s not often I get to have a picture with my son Joshua. You would think I have tons, but unfortunately I don’t! I have decided that is all going to change and I am going to make more of an effort to get in pictures with my children. They grow so fast and it seems like I barely have any pictures of me with them. Here’s to a good start. 🙂

Early Winter

Minolta 50mm f/1.4

Minolta 50mm f/1.4

Winter has hit a little early in Calgary this year! I decided to head out and take a look around the city last night and see how it looked. It was pretty foggy out and I think the fog really added something nice to the picture. It looks quiet to me, and it was. I guess everyone was inside trying to stay warm. 😉

Summer Night Selfie

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-ef-300mm-f2-8Not a proper selfie, but I did take this picture of myself :). I had been out shooting all night and thought before I packed it in I would jump in on a shot. To get the focus right, I propped my iPhone up on the 2X Extender I had with me with the “notes” app open for the white screen (as seen in the picture bellow). Once the phone was set, I ran back to my camera and auto focused on the phone and then set the lens to manual focus. I did a couple small adjustments, set the 10 second timer and ran back to my pre determined spot which was marked by my keys. I shot this photo about 4 or 5 times and it was easily the most fun I had all night!

Waiting for the Storm

rob moses exif data canon 6d 50mm 1.4I shot this one on Saturday night. It had been raining all day and the clouds looked rather menacing. I thought rather than just another city shot, I might hop in front of the camera to add a little something to the photo. I was shooting with a friend of mine and he had a 430EX Speedlite on him with some Radio Poppers flash triggers, so we set the flash up. We used the one flash to camera left with a small defuser on the unit. I would have preferred it if there was more lights on in the buildings, but I still like the way it turned out.

Nice View

exif data canon 5d mark iii 50mm 1.4 rob mosesI shot a wedding in Banff, Alberta Canada this past weekend. Before I headed home I took a little rip up to this spot shot this photo. The Banff Springs Hotel sitting on the side of that mountain provides quite the magical view.

Down By The River

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mm 1.4I was down by the river last weekend shooting some photos. I decided I’d hope in on one of the shots for a little bokeh action! Pretty cool view from a dark river bank on a cold winter night.

Hipster Camera on The Hip

exif data rob moses Canon 6d 50mm 1.4

I had the idea for this shot for one reason, to show off the cool looking Canon A-1. I think the A1 looks extra cool with the grip attached to it, so I was thinking of how I could get a good picture with the camera being the main focal point and not just have it sitting there. I love a good skyline picture and I love bokeh, so I thought this little mixture would make a good shot.

Getting this shot was not easy, I was pre-focsuing because I left my RC1 remote at home. So I put a can on ground, pre-focused there, recomposed, put the camera on a 10 second timer and took my spot in the frame. After a dozen or so shots, I finally came up with this one. I actually had a friend with me and he could have easily shot the photo for me, but then it wouldn’t exactly be all mine would it? haha. Plus, the challenge of getting the shot on my own was half the fun :).

1000th Instagram Post!

I hit my 1000th post on Instagram yesterday! I though I’d do something a little fun for that post and put this picture together. I shot the photo with my Sony A7ii & 24-70mm sitting on a railing on a 10 second, 5 shot sequence timer. I sent the picture straight to my phone and added the text using the Moldiv app. If your on Instagram give me a follow! I’m @RobMoses there :).

Sitting Around The East Village

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mm

I was down in the East Village of Calgary over the weekend. I was taking pictures of the river off the boardwalk when I decided to try out one of these chairs. I figured if I was gonna grab a nice little seat for my self I might as well shoot another photo while I’m at it. 🙂
