Cammy – Manual Focus

Camera: Sony A7R & Canon FD 85mm f/1.8 ~ Settings: f/1.8 – 1/1600th – ISO 100

Yesterday evening my son Cammy and I went for a little bike ride around the block and I shot this photo of him. I took the picture with a Sony A7R with a 1970’s Canon FD 85mm f/1.8 manual focus lens. I find shooting with these old lenses fun, however it can become quiet frustrating at times. I like to shoot wide open with a shallow depth of field and getting the focus right on point with a manual focus lens isn’t the easiest thing to do when your used to the joy and ease of a modern auto focus lens. When you do get that focus right, it is extra gratifying though :).

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

  1. Very nice picture – handsome young man there! I have another daughter ready to graduate from high school – your son will be there before you know it!

I am using the manual focus more and more – I have that fear that the auto focus does not quite hit the mark and I love the fine details! And sometimes I want to focus on one thing and the auto focus wants to focus on something else! I have been experimenting with focusing on the 2nd or 3rd object in a view – it has been fun to see that effect.
