Climbing For Pictures

I shot this photo from kind of a weird spot. I was on the side of a busy off ramp from a bridge with no walking or biking path. I just climbed up the hill from under the bridge and shot my photos from the side of the street. Thankfully there is a barer between the side of the hill and the cars, so it wasn’t to wild. Anyhow, I like spots like this because it is a view people don’t constantly see everyday, unless they drive over this bridge all the time or find themselves climbing around the sides of over passes 🙂

Minolta City

I was about to toss this old camera in the trash when I I took a look at the mirror after I took the lens off. I thought it looked pretty cool with the little lines and then I though I might be able to get a good photo if I incorporated the mirror of the camera. Since I’m a city guy I thought having part of the city in the background and in the camera would look pretty cool. I like how it turned out 🙂

I shot this photo with a Sony a7R with a Nikon Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 micro.

Bike Path View

I went out for a little evening bike ride the other night. I made a quick stop and shot this photo of the nice view of the city I was enjoying while riding by. There are definitely better views from other parts of the path, but this is one bit that probably doesn’t get shot a ton since your right in front of the buildings.

Colorful Alley

Just a random shot of a colorful alley in Sandpoint, Idaho. I was just walking around this little town one day when I was passing through and thought the alley looked pretty cool. It’s probably a little bright for your typical alley shot, but I thought it worked because of all the color.

Coeur d’Alene Sunset

exif data rob moses a7r 55mm sonyThis sunset looks particularly crazy because when I shot the photo there was some massive forest fires burning in the area. The entire region was covered in smoke and Coeur d’Alene was right in the thick of it. The smoke provided quite the hazy looking sunset, so for the shot it actually helped my situation. Of course forest fires are bad, but at least you can pull something positive from them if you try.

Candid Michelle

rob moses exif data sony a7r 55mm 1.8

This is a candid shot I took of my wife Michelle while we were in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho this past summer. Michelle doesn’t really seem to like any pictures of herself (this one included, but I’m posting it anyhow haha) and isn’t to keen on posing. When I took this shot she was looking at that sign in front of her and I was coming up behind her. I just stopped had my camera in my face and ready to go and said “Michelle”, when she turned I took the picture haha. The auto focus is a little slow on that Sony a7R, so I didn’t get her completely off guard, but at least I got a picture of her. 😉

A Few Cents On The Sign

This cool old spot is Browns Tavern in Spokane, Washington. It’s a wonderful little place my wife and I stumbled upon one morning while walking around the historic Browns Addition neighbourhood. While talking to the lovely waitress who was serving us, I mentioned how I liked the sign. To my surprise, she told us the sign was made of pennies! What a cool idea. The sign looks cool in the picture, but it really does look even better in person. If your ever in Spokane, this is a good stop to make.

The Roxy

I LOVE old signs and buildings like this! Reminds me of old timey hollywood. This little movie theatre is hidden in a small ski town in British Columba, Canada called Revelstoke. I often pass through Revelstoke on my way to visit family in Vernon, BC. This summer my family and I decided to spend a day and night in the town and have a look around. Every time I have gone to Revelstoke I would look at this sign and think to myself, “I need to get a shot of that sign at night”. After everyone had gone to bed the night we spent in town, I grabbed my camera gear and headed out the door. The sign didn’t disappoint and the picture turned out exactly how I had imagined it would. 🙂

Note: I used the Sony Fisheye Converter on a 16mm 2.8 prime for this shot.

Canon vs Sony 70-200mm

I have been shooting a decent amount with my Sony a7R these days and I have run into some auto focus speed issues along the way. I have found that Sony’s hit rate of moving subjects is noticeably lower than what I have been used to with my Canon gear. This issue rang especially true while I was shooting some soccer this summer with the Sony E-mount 70-200mm f4 G OSS. Since I have a Canon EF 70-200mm f4 IS I thought it might be interesting to do a little real world test of these to lenses head to head. Even thought I had an idea of how the test would go from my past experiences with both lenses, I was surprised at end result of this one.

For this video I employed my two children to help me out. My 6 year old son Joshua was my 2nd camera man and my 4 year old son Cameron was the test subject :). Oh and by the way, if you have a youtube account please subscribe to my channel. I am going to try and do a lot more videos than I have been doing. YouTube.com/user/RobMoses 👍

A Beautiful Bridge & Park

exif data sony a7r 24-70mm rob moses

This is part of Riverfront Park in front of the Monroe Street Bridge in Spokane, Washington. It looks a little hazy because smoke from some forest fires was just starting to clear up. I really love old bridges like this and I love this part of the park because there are loads of places to hang out at and enjoy the view.

Smokey Spokane Night

Sony a7R 24-70mm exif data rob moses
I was in Spokane, Washington a couple of weeks ago and there was loads of forest fires burning in the area. The city was filled with smoke! During the day, the smoke didn’t look all that great in photos. Thankfully the smoke provided an interesting twist to a photo that has been shot tons of times by tons of people! As you can image, the spot where I took this picture from is a rather popular location. So if nothing else, at least this one good thing came from all that nasty fire.

Big shout out to all the fire fighters who are still battling fires out in Washington and Oregon! (and everywhere else too).

Starry Sky in BC

Rob Moses exif data Sony A7R 16mm fisheye converter

I was in Revelstoke, British Columbia a couple of weeks ago and shot this photo of the night sky. Revelstoke is a small town with out a lot of light pollution, which makes for getting shots of the stars nice and easy. At first I was walking over to a location by the river, but when I when I saw this break in the trees and houses I thought it would make a better picture to have something in for foreground. The contrast of the bright yellow house seemed like a nice fit to me.
