Crystal Ball

So my friend Allen has been shooting a bunch of photos with this crystal ball he got. We were out shooting photos the other night and he pulled out the ball. I had just finished shooting a photo I wanted to get at the location we were at and he was still going at it. Since it was all set up I thought I’d shoot a quick photo with it in the other direction. In the edit I decided to flip my photo upside down so the image in the ball would seem right side up to the viewer. It’s a fun photo and I can see why Allen likes using it in his pictures.

Ice Cream Night

When I set up for this photo I had no intentions of having any people in the shot. I just wanted to get the sign and the building in the frame. I was all set up and waiting for a bunch of cars to go by so I could capture all the lights. These 3 girls walked up and where waiting for the light to change. I was making some adjustments and snapping a few pictures. The girl with the ice cream asked if I was snapping pictures of them, because they could pose. I laughed and said I was just interested in the sign. However, after l got home and looked at the test shots with the girls, I liked that one better than the one with the car lights. So as it turns out I guess I was taking their picture haha.

PS: That’s my buddy Allen in the bottom left of the photo haha. He was shooting his own photo. Actually I ended up shooting a photo in that exact same spot with that ball of his on the rail. I’ll post that picture next.

More City

This is another angle from an evening a couple of weeks ago. I was hopping for a wicked sunset, but just got a bit of dusk haha. This picture is still alright. ๐Ÿ™‚

Winter Rocky Mountains

Well it’s still very much winter around here (in Alberta)! But at least it make the mountains look nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunset Over There

I went out on Sunday night hopping to get a shot of the sunset over the Eastside of downtown Calgary. I stopped off at couple different spots before landing on this location. I made my way down the side of this little hill, set my camera up and waited. Unfortunately there were too many clouds over the mountains to the west and not enough over the buildings over the east side of the city. Not all was lost though, because I was able to get this shot and to be honest I am happy things worked out the way they did, because I would never have set out to take this angle and now that I see the finished product I rather like it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Off to Puerto Vallarta Mexico

I am happy to report that I am posting this from beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico right now! We arrived here a couple days ago and have been loving the warm weather. All the winter back home in Calgary was getting a little old. It’s a travel day for the video, but I’ll be posting more videos from the trip while we are here :).

Don’t miss the sunset timelapse! It’s at the end of the video. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒ…

Rocky Mountain Sun

I was out in Banff, Alberta this past weekend on a little family ski trip. The weather was pretty cold and it was snowing most of the time so I didn’t get a chance to take many pictures. I shot this photo on the day we left right before we headed home. The pictures from the ski hill are just some snaps I took with my GoPro.

Snowy Edmonton

I was up in Edmonton last weekend and it was super cold and snowy! I stopped off at my favourite photo spot and shot a few quick city shots before I left town.

C-Square in Calgary

I only learned the name of this spot from someone who posted a comment on my instagram account. You would be forgiven if you thought C stood for COLD! lol, however it is actually “Celebration Square”. I saw a band playing music here last summer, it’s a pretty cool little spot. Not exactly jumping with activity in the winter, but then again who wants to hang out when it’s -10C. Anyhow, cool lights and the surroundings are nice to look at if your into the city life.

Mirror Man

So there I was waiting for an elevator one day when I spotted this mirror. I didn’t give it much thought to be honest, just a quick look and a snap. Sometimes that’s all you need to walk away with something you like. ๐Ÿ™‚

Instagram vs WordPress

I keep falling off my blogging regimen these days and I put a lot of the blame on Instagram! I think I have wrote about this before, but it just rings so true it is hard to avoid. I wonder how many other people feel this way? For me, I get a lot more interaction on Instagram so it only makes sense to dedicate at more time there. However, the longer format of the blog gives more creative freedom, but at a cost, time. Time is my main enemy here, I find when I am going peddle to the metal on Instagram I don’t make time for WordPress and vice versa.

Maybe time management is more of the issue here. If there was ever a time I should be ripping both full blast now is the time. During the winter in Calgary I find it too cold to go out much, so I am indoors more than I usually am. This extra time at home should give me the time to do both. So maybe I will start posting more again, I hope I will. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow haha.

Switching Positions

My 8 year old son Joshua is in his 4th year of playing hockey. Joshua has been talking about wanting to play goalie for the last couple years and has progressively become more and more interested in the position. Over the last couple of months it had become clear to me that my sons heart was set on becoming a goalie. Anytime he has free time to spend on the computer or his iPad he is watching goalie videos on YouTube. I bought him a street hockey goalie set for his net in the basement and he asks me to play with him down there everyday as soon as I walk through the door. My wife and I talked it over and came to the conclusion that there was no question, Joshua wanted to be a goalie.

Joshua plays at the Novice (Mites in the US) level and at this level of hockey the kids just rotate the goalie position. Next year Joshua will be moving up the Atom level and it is there that teams have full-time goalies. So with that in mind we decided to get him his goalie gear early and get him practicing up for next years try outs. Yesterday Joshua had his first chance to try out his new gear in a game and I am happy to report it went great! A lot of good saves went down, but more importantly my son’s dream of becoming a goalie has come true and he’s happy.
