Please Forgive My Photo & Me

Camera: Canon 5D mark iii & 70-300mm IS DO @ 70mm ~ Settings: f/8 – 1/125th – ISO 1250

If this photo had a nice clear sky behind it, it would be 10 times better. Normally I would just scrap the photo and go back another day when it was nicer out. However! Getting this particular angle of the city was not easy and to be honest a little sketchy haha. I was driving by the river bellow and noticed some townhouses through the trees, so I went looking for them. When I got out of my car and started walking around I figured out that the “townhouses” I saw was actually some kind of nunnery. I walked up the driveway and stood there to see if I could get a shot from there, but there was no way. I walked further in and saw a gate that led to some grass and fence over looking a cliff. Since no one seemed to mind me standing around the parking lot I figured they wouldn’t mind if I walked on the lawn and grabbed a few quick shots haha. So in true trespasser (not something I ever do) fashion I walked on the law, lifted my camera over the fence and branches and shot this photo. In hindsight I wish I would have just knocked on the door and asked if it was ok, because that would have been the right thing to do. In fact, I think I will go back on a nice day and do just that. I think I’ll ask for forgiveness while I’m at it ;).

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

  1. That is one of the challenge about shooting in winter time, grey sky does not give the best results and when you get a clear blue sky, it is – 25 o C

  2. Trying to figure out where you were in Calgary and made this image… the only nunnery I am aware of was close to St. Mary’s School. Great image none the less, even with the grey sky.
