1st Day of School

Well my 2 boys are off to school again! (1st grade & 3rd grade). It’s always fun taking the kids to their first day of school. I couldn’t get these guys to stay still for a picture together though! They were too excited to get to their friends. Next year I’ll plan that part a little better haha. Anyhow, it’s exciting times at Stanly Jones Elementary and a good day to reflect on another summers past. 🙂

Bike Path View

I went out for a little evening bike ride the other night. I made a quick stop and shot this photo of the nice view of the city I was enjoying while riding by. There are definitely better views from other parts of the path, but this is one bit that probably doesn’t get shot a ton since your right in front of the buildings.

An Old Sunset

This picture was just sitting on my computer for the past few years. I was never planning on doing anything with it, but I needed something for my Instagram account yesterday and I just decided to post this one. It’s not a bad picture, but I just didn’t excite me. However, there is a peaceful feel to the photo that does have it’s own quality. Figured I might as well just toss it up here too :).

Uncommon Calgary

This is an uncommon view of Calgary from the south side. I personally like the view from the north better, but every now and then I’ll head over here just to remind myself there is a whole other part of the city I rarely hang out at (and I should). This picture is definitely better when viewed at a larger size, so be sure and click on the one bellow.

Fireworks Over Calgary

exif data rob moses canon 6d 70-200mm f4 ISHere is a little Calgary Stampede fireworks action from Sunday night. Fireworks are always a struggle to shoot. You need get a good one in the first few moments or the smoke takes over the scene and it usually doesn’t look as good. Thankfully I got this shot off before the smoke got to crazy.

Pieces to the Puzzle

This picture is kind of cool because of all the action going on. At first glance you might not even notice, but there really is a lot happening. First off and most importantly, the couple walking across the bridge. Then of course the people on the boat and the other people about to launch their boat. Another important piece to this photo is the train going by in the background. I waited quite a while to get that train going by and to have a good shot of some people on the bridge before shooting the photo. All these little things might not be much interest to most people, but to me they all come together to make this picture something I can appreciate.

Everyone seems to shoot photos at this bridge in Calgary, and why not its beautiful! I have been here a bunch of times, but on this occasion I decided to stand balancing on the back part of one of the benches there to get a little extra hight. I shot this one handheld with my Sony a7ii & Canon FD 50mm f/1.2. I can’t remember my exact settings, I think I was shooting around f/5.6 or so. I have said this before, but the image stabilization on the a7ii is just wonderful.

Oh and that title! Well you know, blue night and a red bridge. 😉

Hello Buildings

I was out for a little bike ride yesterday with my son and I stopped off to shoot this photo. The light hit the buildings quite nicely for a moment there and I like the way it was bouncing around the buildings. 🙂

Sunset by the River

Not a bad spot to spend a Friday evening! A sunset by the river is always a good time in my book :).

Frosty Climb City

exif data Canon 5D mark iii 70-200mm Rob MosesI had to climb a pretty big fence for this shot. I had driven by this location a long time ago and thought I might be able to get a good shot if I was to climb up the fence. I just happen to be driving near that location again today and I thought with all the frost on the trees and the clear sky, it might be worth trying out. I’m glad I made the stop, because I love a picture with buildings mountains together :).

If you check out this link by around 11:30am on Sunday you can watch the Periscope video of me climbing haha. Climbing Periscope Video

Down By The River

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mm 1.4I was down by the river last weekend shooting some photos. I decided I’d hope in on one of the shots for a little bokeh action! Pretty cool view from a dark river bank on a cold winter night.

Ice Skating Time Lapse

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2015 was good to you and 2016 is even better 😀.

Yesterday evening I went down to the ice skating rink at Olympic Plaza here in Calgary. I set up my GoPro Hero 4 Silver on a Joby Gorillapod Focus onto a fence that was guarding some lights the city had set up. Once I framed up my shot and let the shutter go I thought I might shoot some photos, however it was colder than I had anticipated and ended up keeping my hands in my pockets 😅. Unfortunately I had also forgot my phone in my car, so I couldn’t even do a Periscope or do some Instagraming! However, all that was probably for the best anyhow, because the fence I set up camera up on was a temporary fence and prone to shaking easy if anyone decided to lean on it or anything. So there I stood, keeping guard as if the fence was surrounding some precious treasure haha. I can tell you with certainty that this part of the evening was not fun. Standing around in a 6 foot area by yourself in the freezing cold (trying not look like a weirdo) with no phone or anyone to talk to for over an hour is not a good time. With that said, I am still happy I went down there because I think the time lapse turned out kind of cool. 🙂
