Urban Honolulu Night

The city of Honolulu looks amazing at night! The view from the apartment we rented was especially amazing after the sun went down. I kind of wish I lived in a an apartment so I could get a wicked city view like this, but when you got two crazy little boys that love to run out the door every 5 minutes it’s not really ideal. Maybe one day though ;).

Honolulu Morning View

This is the view Cameron was looking at in my last post. The view from our room in Honolulu was amazing! I spent a lot time staring out the window at it. I think most people would have wanted a straight view of the beach, but for me this was just perfect! I kind of feel like, if you seen one beach, you’ve seen them all. Sitting at this window with a coffee in the morning provided a lot of new things to see and a very inviting city to draw you into.

Where Have I Been?

As you may know from my pervious blog posts, I was recently in Hawaii. As you may also know I haven’t been blogging a ton lately. It was with great surprise that I discovered I haven’t shared any of the photos I shot in Hawaii other than the wedding photos!

My precious Instagram account (@RobMoses) has been taking all my time and attention and left nothing for my poor blog. That is all about to change, well at least I am going to give it a good try haha. First I just need to start with massive game of catch up. I have shot so many photos over the summer and only shared a handful of them here. Moving forward I am going to make the blog more of priority.

Kicking things back off here with a picture my son Cameron enjoying the view from our room in Honolulu.

1st Day of School

Well my 2 boys are off to school again! (1st grade & 3rd grade). It’s always fun taking the kids to their first day of school. I couldn’t get these guys to stay still for a picture together though! They were too excited to get to their friends. Next year I’ll plan that part a little better haha. Anyhow, it’s exciting times at Stanly Jones Elementary and a good day to reflect on another summers past. 🙂

Biking in Edmonton (Video)

My friend Nathan and I took a little road trip up to Edmonton to shoot some photos and take in the sights on our bikes. I shot a little video along the way 🙂

Minolta City

I was about to toss this old camera in the trash when I I took a look at the mirror after I took the lens off. I thought it looked pretty cool with the little lines and then I though I might be able to get a good photo if I incorporated the mirror of the camera. Since I’m a city guy I thought having part of the city in the background and in the camera would look pretty cool. I like how it turned out 🙂

I shot this photo with a Sony a7R with a Nikon Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 micro.

YYC Iron Horse

This cool horse is right in the middle of downtown here in Calgary. It is in this really cool city park that is attached to a train station. I don’t often find myself in this park, but every time I do I take a minute to admire the art.

A couple years ago I took another picture of one of these statues at night. You can see that picture here: Click Me!

Brittany & Ben

I did an engagement shoot with Brittany & Ben last weekend. The weather was calling for rain and Brittany & Ben are in town from England and were leaving the next day, so rescheduling the shoot wasn’t exactly an option. Lucky for us the rain let up for pretty much the whole shoot. Thanks for that sky! I had so much fun with these two. Many laughs were had and we got some cool shots! Fingers crossed for better weather during the wedding next year, but either way I know we’ll have a good time and get some good pictures :).

Sunny Beach

Screen Shot 2017-05-20 at 3.11.10 PM

I took this picture while I was down in Cancun Mexico last. This particular beach seemed to get a ton of sun and had some really beautiful blue water. The sand was nice, the people were cool and I loved it! I kinda wish I was there right now to be honest with you. 😎

Straight Out of Camera Strangers

I am the proud new owner of the Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 lens! I just got it yesterday and I had to go test it out, but I needed some people to take pictures of. I zipped over to Crescent Road in Calgary and met some strangers who didn’t mind having their picture taken. The featured picture is of Jesis, he was shooting a time lapse so I went over and started talking to him and after some Instagraming I got a picture of him. I also met this really friendly girl who was taking pictures of the skyline with her phone. We go to talking and we made a deal that I’d take some pictures of her with her phone and then I’d take some with my camera haha. Then the black and white picture, well these guys just came up to me lol. These guys were also out taking pictures and just came over to see what kind of pictures I was getting. Of course, I had to get a shot these kindred spirits. The night was fun and I got to meet some really cool people, always bonus!

All the pictures are straight out of the camera with no edits. Except for the B&W and the city shot. I just wanted to see how the color Fuji files would turn out in a black and white conversation. And the city shot just needed a touch of contrast a tiny pull back on the highlights.

The sun was in full sunset mode casting a very warm/pinkish light here↖︎.

Fujifilm X-E1 & Canon 50mm 1.2

I picked up this Fujifilm X-E1 on consignment the other day when I was down at my local camera shop. The body was there for $250, so I thought why not. At that price you can’t really go wrong. The screen has some scratches on it, but that kind of thing doesn’t bother me. I got my vintage Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 on the camera and have been testing it out for the past week. Everyday I learn something new about the camera and I think I am close to figuring out the settings so the jpegs come out the way I like. FYI, I have been shooting raw since forever, but the Fuji JPEGs are supposed to be what’s up so I’m moseying down that road right now.

The pictures bellow (except for the camera shot) are just some random shots I took with the camera. All the photos are straight out of the camera with no edits applied to the pictures. From one picture to the next I had wished I made a little adjustment here or there, but I am getting closer to what I want as the days go on. I am sure by this time next week I’ll have that thing dialled in perfect, well perfect for me at least haha.

RIU Hotel

Sony a7ii

When I was down in Cancun last I walked by this hotel many times. I like the way it looks, wide and simple. This place was right next to the hotel I was staying at, so one night I went over and shot this photo from a quarantined off staircase on an old mall. The staircase gave me just a little extra hight that I needed to get a good view of the street and hotel together.

Just Weeks before with Amy & Dwight

I went kicking around Princes Island Park with Amy & Dwight the other day to shoot some engagement photos. Funny thing about this photo session is it was only a few weeks away from the actual wedding! Not exactly typical, but who cares ;). We really lucked out with the weather because the days leading up to the shoot were really ugly out and then on the day the sun was shinning and it was sweater weather. Good weather, good people and a good location is a recipe for fun and that’s what happened.

I also shot a bit of video along the way too and have added it here if your into that sort of thing.
