Just Weeks before with Amy & Dwight

I went kicking around Princes Island Park with Amy & Dwight the other day to shoot some engagement photos. Funny thing about this photo session is it was only a few weeks away from the actual wedding! Not exactly typical, but who cares ;). We really lucked out with the weather because the days leading up to the shoot were really ugly out and then on the day the sun was shinning and it was sweater weather. Good weather, good people and a good location is a recipe for fun and that’s what happened.

I also shot a bit of video along the way too and have added it here if your into that sort of thing.

An Old Sunset

This picture was just sitting on my computer for the past few years. I was never planning on doing anything with it, but I needed something for my Instagram account yesterday and I just decided to post this one. It’s not a bad picture, but I just didn’t excite me. However, there is a peaceful feel to the photo that does have it’s own quality. Figured I might as well just toss it up here too :).

A Downtown View

I shot this one from Tom Campbell Park by my house in Calgary. I don’t live to far from this place and on my way home one night last summer I decided to stop by and shoot a photo with my 300mm. Earlier in the night I was out with a friend of mine shooting some photos a lot farther away from the city, I thought I might stop off here and see what kind of results I got a little closer in. Not a bad shot, but then again it’s pretty easy to get a decent shot from Tom Campell Park.

TriMet to the Bridge

rob-moses-exif-data-settings-canon-6d-50mm-1-4I had just walked across this bridge in Portland and saw the train coming up. One quick shot later and I had this picture. If I had a little more time to think I probably would have shot this with a slower shutter speed to show some movement in the train. I guess I’ll have to wait till next time to have another go at it.

The 2nd photo is just shot I took of myself while I was taking pictures off the top of this parking garage. 🙂

Bouncing Flash

exif-data-rob-moses-5d-mark-iii-28mm-1-8This is Chris, I was over at his house last night for dinner. I knew he lived in the building that was off white in color, so I thought I’d see how the flashed looked bouncing it off the wall. I used a 28mm lens so I could take in some of the surrounding buildings. I should have moved in a little closer to Chris though, because I ended up cropping in a bit on this shot. Other than that I think it worked out pretty good. I bounced the flash off the wall to camera right. The bounced flash looks soft and even, can’t ask for much more than that.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years! I was away visiting family over the holidays and never found myself in front of a computer, hence the lack of posts over the past week or so. Anyhow, I’m back in Calgary and it’s freezing as usual, so here’s a shot I took downtown of some cold buildings on your average deep freeze night in Calgary. 🙂

Stay Warm! Rob

Big City Sky

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-70-200mm-f2-8-isIf your a photographer in Calgary and you didn’t make it out to shoot last night, you missed out! The sky was amazing at dusk and my good friend Nathan Somes and I were out there taking it all in. The idea to shoot was a bit of a last minute thing and we were racing out the door to make it before the sky went black on us. Clearly we made it, and just in the nick of time!

After we shot this location we went to shoot a couple more and we saw these people shooting off some little fireworks. I just happen to have my 2X extender on at the time and was able to grab a quick shot of that too! It was a good night to be out shooting photos. 🙂

No Option to Zoom

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-300mm-f2-8I love taking pictures of the city at night. When I went to shoot photos on this night I took only one lens, my Canon 300mm f/2.8. Sometimes I’ll leave the house with only one lens, because I find it forces me into photos I might not otherwise shoot. This shot is pretty tight in and I probably would have zoomed out a bit if I had the option. After looking at the pictures on my computer, I am glad the option to zoom out was unavailable, because I like the picture as it is.

Early Winter

Winter has hit a little early in Calgary this year! I decided to head out and take a look around the city last night and see how it looked. It was pretty foggy out and I think the fog really added something nice to the picture. It looks quiet to me, and it was. I guess everyone was inside trying to stay warm. 😉

Shiny & New

exif-data-rob-moses-sony-a850-minolta-100mm-f2-8-macroWe got a shiny new building (Brookfield Place) going up in Calgary and it’s almost done! The building is super bright right now compared to all the others. I am sure it won’t stay THAT bright, but I hope it still keeps some of that sparkly shine to it. 🙂

Well it’s that time of year again that all the hockey fans have been waiting for! The NHL preseason has started the real games are just around the corner. I am sure there are many fun nights in the near future for me in this building.

For the locals, I’m still peeved that Hartley‘s gone, but what are ya gonna do? Hope the Flames have a good year with the new guy.

Secluded Peace

exif-data-rob-moses-photography-canon-5d-mark-iii-300mm-f2-8-lTaking pictures of a city a night has a special kind of magic to it. I find this especially true when you are in a dark and secluded place like I was for this shot. My location was completely quiet and I was very much alone. Peaceful, relaxing and exciting all at the same time. I love it. 🙂
