The Sprawl Jump

I was out shooting photos on Friday night and ended up at this place. I thought a near by art piece would make a good fisheye shot, but it turned out to be a bust. Since my other photo idea wasn’t working out I noticed this bench and I thought I might try jumping off it. Since I was wearing a t-shirt of my friend Jermey’s company I thought I’d ditch the jacket in the cold and big up his journalism project (The Sprawl). Jeremey is doing great journalism work here in Calgary and if your into the local political scene you’ll defiantly want to check him out.

To shoot this photo I set up my camera on a tripod at its lowest setting and framed the shot. I set up one Godox V860ii flash sitting on my camera bag to camera right. Then I started jumping around like a crazy person! 😉

On The Edge

I was wondering around the city last night looking for some new locations to shoot a photo. I went up a set of stairs between some buildings and ended up here. As soon as I got to the top of the stairs I new I wanted to get out on the ledge. I checked it out and had the vision for the photo in my mind right away. The ledge was on some pretty tight quarters, so I had my tripod spread out just enough to stand on the opposite side ledge and I put one flash on the ledge behind my left foot. I shot this photo with my Nikon 14mm f/2.8 and I don’t think anything less would have been up for the job. The picture turned out exactly like how I had pictured it in my mind and when that happens it’s always a good feeling.

Selfie in the Night

After everyone at my house went to bed I decided I’d get out and shoot a photo. As soon as I got my gear in my car a light snow started to fall! I almost packed it in, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to take the few minutes drive to some buildings and see if I could find a covered area. Lucky for me when I got around some bigger buildings, it wasn’t snowing.

I shot this photo with my camera on a tripod with a 10 second timer. I used one Godox V860ii flash on the ground bare to camera right. It took a few tries to get something I was happy with. This picture was the last shot I took and it was just in time, as the parking lot security had just showed up to see what I was up too haha.

Selfie On a Ledge

I was out taking pictures on the weekend and I was setting up for a shot of the city. While I was deciding where to shoot from I noticed this little ledge off the balcony I was standing on. The ledge looked easy enough to get onto so I thought I might as well hop onto it and do a self portrait. At first I was just looking at the camera normal. I had my D800E set to shoot 3 photos and on the 3rd one I just decided to pull my hood up and look at the camera. This is not how I normally am in front of the camera, but it’s good do do something different from time to time. 🙂

Well

I was out shooting some photos one night with a friend of mine and I was getting pretty board of the pictures I was taking. I thought I’d just hop in some of the shots to shake things up. 🙂

Oh and by the way, this is in no way an endorsement or anything of that nature to the companies sign I am sitting in front of haha. The sign just kind of matched my shirt, so I sat there.

Street Shooting The Pearl

canon-6d-50mm-exif-data-rob-mosesI found myself walking down the street in the Pearl District of Portland and did a little street shooting. The color of this building really stood out to me so I held down the corner for a couple of minutes so I could get a person in my shot. This cool looking girl came around just in time :).

Enjoy The View

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-6d-24-105mm-f4-isSometimes you just gotta have a seat and enjoy the beauty around you. When you’re in Lake Louise there is no shortage of places to do just that. I think this particular spot is definitely one of the best places to take it all in.

I didn’t know this guy, but I thought it was a good look the way he was sitting by the lake. I ran up behind him and shot about 5 photos. I was shooting at 24mm, so you can image how close I was to him. After I shot the first photo, he looked back at me and I shot my second frame. Clearly he didn’t mind because he just turned his head back and kept enjoying the view. 🙂

Waiting for the Storm

rob moses exif data canon 6d 50mm 1.4I shot this one on Saturday night. It had been raining all day and the clouds looked rather menacing. I thought rather than just another city shot, I might hop in front of the camera to add a little something to the photo. I was shooting with a friend of mine and he had a 430EX Speedlite on him with some Radio Poppers flash triggers, so we set the flash up. We used the one flash to camera left with a small defuser on the unit. I would have preferred it if there was more lights on in the buildings, but I still like the way it turned out.

Walk of Art

exif data rob moses canon 5d mark iii 135mmI was out for a little street photography action last night in Calgary. I was walking by a train station and noticed this beautiful painting on the security gate of a store. I thought it would look cool to have some one walking out in front of it, so I waited for the right person and came away with this shot. I don’t usually like placing people dead center in my photos, but for whatever reason I think it works for this shot.

Maybe it’s Warmer Over There

exif data rob moses Canon 6D 70-200mm f4 isI don’t know how she does it. This girl is walking around in the winter time in Calgary with a skirt on! That coffee she’s got is either the hottest coffee in the world, or she’s crazy! haha. In any case, she’s kill’n the game for street style around here right now :).

Bright Crossing

I made a quick stop to do a little street photography yesterday and shot this photo. It is actually a really great spot to shoot from because there is a bench to sit on right on the corner where I was. So you can basically just chill out and wait for the person to walk by :).

Nooreen & Imran

On Sunday afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting Nooreen and Imran. I am shooting their wedding this summer and they came down to Calgary from Edmonton to wrap up some details for the wedding and shoot their engagement photos with me. On sunday it was crazy windy in Calgary and we chose our locations based on that. We would shoot a photo in one spot outside, then run in a building and shoot one in there to escape the wind and to warm up! haha. Then back outside to the least windy places we could find. This style of location decisions isn’t ideal, but it was fun! Both Noreen and Imran are super easy going and fun to be around. We shared many laughs together and I even got see them dance! You know it’s a good day when your dancing in the street :).

All photos shot with a Canon 6D & 17-40L, 28mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4 & 135L. I used a 580exii shot though a white shoot through umbrella in a few of the shots.
