Street Shooting with the Leica CL Rangefinder

When I’m out doing the street photography thing I like to shoot wide open. I just like the way the photos look that way better. This style of shooting with a rangefinder is quite difficult, at least it is for me. Nailing focus on moving subjects with a rangefinder patch isn’t exactly easy and since I’ve been on a rangefinder kick these days I am never sure if the photos I’m shooting are going to work out.

I shot these photos with my Leica CL film camera (Leica makes a digital camera with the same name). The lens I was using is a Canon 50mm f/1.8 LTM. I find this to be a nice combination. The only thing I don’t like is the Canon lens has a very long focus through, so I kind of need to make sure I’m in the general area of wear I think I’ll need to focus before I go to shoot the photo, otherwise by the time I get focus the moment will have passed. If it wasn’t for this I’d probably just use this lens long term, but because of this I’ll probably end up getting another lens for this camera. For now it’s good though.

Film: Kodak Gold 200
