Out in These Streets

I was out kicking around Calgary last night shooting some photos. It wasn’t a particularly nice night for it, because the sky was rather dark, but there were people out and the atmosphere of the city made up for the dark skies. I met 4 different people and we all followed each other on Instagram. The first picture is one of those people. Big up to everyone down to meet someone new on the city streets at night. 🙂

Straight Out of Camera Strangers

I am the proud new owner of the Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 lens! I just got it yesterday and I had to go test it out, but I needed some people to take pictures of. I zipped over to Crescent Road in Calgary and met some strangers who didn’t mind having their picture taken. The featured picture is of Jesis, he was shooting a time lapse so I went over and started talking to him and after some Instagraming I got a picture of him. I also met this really friendly girl who was taking pictures of the skyline with her phone. We go to talking and we made a deal that I’d take some pictures of her with her phone and then I’d take some with my camera haha. Then the black and white picture, well these guys just came up to me lol. These guys were also out taking pictures and just came over to see what kind of pictures I was getting. Of course, I had to get a shot these kindred spirits. The night was fun and I got to meet some really cool people, always bonus!

All the pictures are straight out of the camera with no edits. Except for the B&W and the city shot. I just wanted to see how the color Fuji files would turn out in a black and white conversation. And the city shot just needed a touch of contrast a tiny pull back on the highlights.

The sun was in full sunset mode casting a very warm/pinkish light here↖︎.

Fujifilm X-E1 & Canon 50mm 1.2

I picked up this Fujifilm X-E1 on consignment the other day when I was down at my local camera shop. The body was there for $250, so I thought why not. At that price you can’t really go wrong. The screen has some scratches on it, but that kind of thing doesn’t bother me. I got my vintage Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 on the camera and have been testing it out for the past week. Everyday I learn something new about the camera and I think I am close to figuring out the settings so the jpegs come out the way I like. FYI, I have been shooting raw since forever, but the Fuji JPEGs are supposed to be what’s up so I’m moseying down that road right now.

The pictures bellow (except for the camera shot) are just some random shots I took with the camera. All the photos are straight out of the camera with no edits applied to the pictures. From one picture to the next I had wished I made a little adjustment here or there, but I am getting closer to what I want as the days go on. I am sure by this time next week I’ll have that thing dialled in perfect, well perfect for me at least haha.

Hey Guy!

Here is another Fujifilm X-T2 straight out of camera shot (no edits). This guy was parked here and taking pictures looking the other direction. I wanted to get a picture with his face in it, so I yelled “Hey Guy!” haha. Judging by the direction of his eyes he must have thought it was someone else yelling at him. 🤣

Drop The Bass

I was out kicking around the streets of Calgary last weekend shooting some photos with a friend of mine. I spotted this guy from across the street and knew I had to get a shot of him. He was drop’n the bass on some funky tunes and was real cool about a picture. Love people like that!

Surfer Dude

I was wondering around the streets of Isla Mujeres (a small island off the cost of Cancun) on day when I noticed this guy sitting here. He looked like a surfer dude who came straight out of the 1960’s to me. Well if they had cell phones in the 60’s haha. Anyhow, the dude has a real vintage vibe and I thought it matched up with the scene just perfect.

Mexican Stars & Streets

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-6d-28mm-1-8I shot this one last year while I was staying at some resort between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I didn’t have a tripod with me at the time so I couldn’t get the composition exactly how I would have liked it. I just rested my camera on a ledge and shot a long exposure. Turned out ok, good enough to share anyhow ;). Oh and I just thought I’d add a few random street photography shots from one night when I was walking around Playa Del Carmen.

Enjoy The Lights

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-50mm-1-4I took this picture right when I showed up to this location. These two were standing right in the perfect spot for me take a picture of them. They seemed to be enjoying the lights and from what I could tell they didn’t mind me taking their picture. I was shooting with a 50mm lens, so as you can imagine I was quite close to them and I am certain they could hear my camera clicking away. I suppose they were just another friendly couple in Edmonton, which I am sure there are many :).

Colorful Alley

Just a random shot of a colorful alley in Sandpoint, Idaho. I was just walking around this little town one day when I was passing through and thought the alley looked pretty cool. It’s probably a little bright for your typical alley shot, but I thought it worked because of all the color.

Happy Halloween

Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

Lens: Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

Now this is one heck of costume! I saw this person walking around downtown in Calgary this past weekend. I spotted this big happy looking red thing walking down the street about a block away. I quickly scurried over to the corner of the street I thought they were going to cross at, then a train went by and they were across on the other side! I ran over just in time to get the shot. Since I was shooting manual focus, it was no easy feat to get the shot in a hurry! Lucky for me it all worked out. 🙂

Pieces to the Puzzle

This picture is kind of cool because of all the action going on. At first glance you might not even notice, but there really is a lot happening. First off and most importantly, the couple walking across the bridge. Then of course the people on the boat and the other people about to launch their boat. Another important piece to this photo is the train going by in the background. I waited quite a while to get that train going by and to have a good shot of some people on the bridge before shooting the photo. All these little things might not be much interest to most people, but to me they all come together to make this picture something I can appreciate.

Just got a couple of people having their picture taken twice! I doubt they will ever see this one though ;). I shot this one in manual focus with my Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 at 1.2. I love that lens! The 2nd photo isn’t as cool, but I thought it was still worth sharing.

Evening Stroll

Sony a7ii & Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 @ 1.2

Just barely caught these two walking by. I wanted to get the front of them, but I could get my settings were I needed them to be in time. I shot this with my awesome 1970’s Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 wide open. I took 2 shots, the first one was a little out of focus and this one hit pretty close :). The 2nd shot is just a random picture from the same set up and same night.
