Climbing For Pictures

I shot this photo from kind of a weird spot. I was on the side of a busy off ramp from a bridge with no walking or biking path. I just climbed up the hill from under the bridge and shot my photos from the side of the street. Thankfully there is a barer between the side of the hill and the cars, so it wasn’t to wild. Anyhow, I like spots like this because it is a view people don’t constantly see everyday, unless they drive over this bridge all the time or find themselves climbing around the sides of over passes 🙂

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years! I was away visiting family over the holidays and never found myself in front of a computer, hence the lack of posts over the past week or so. Anyhow, I’m back in Calgary and it’s freezing as usual, so here’s a shot I took downtown of some cold buildings on your average deep freeze night in Calgary. 🙂

Stay Warm! Rob

Calgary Shine

rob moses exif data sony a7ii 70-200mm OSS f4 GWe got some shiny buildings over here in Calgary. I like taking pictures from this side of town because when the sun sets you get this beautiful light hitting the buildings. I also timed out this shot so I would have lights from the cars and the train going by at the same time. I think the lights add a lot to the picture. The nice splash of colorful action at the bottom really rounds out the frame.

Commuting Calgary – Canon FD

Exif data Sony a7ii & Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC rob moses

I shot this photo at f/16.

I have been on a bit of vintage lens kick lately. I recently got my hands on a Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC. This is the first test shot I took with the lens on my Sony a7ii. The combination of these old Canon lenses on the a7ii is awesome and super fun to use. This particular lens can be found for pretty cheap (around $100. US dollars). For anyone with an a7 body and no 70-200, it’s kind of a no brainer to pick one of these up. The image quality is good and it is a joy to use. It’s also go this cool built in lens hood! Love the build quality of these classic lenses.

Just when you think winter is finally over, the weather gives you another blast to remind you where you live, Calgary! Every year I am fooled more than once into thinking the winter has ended, this year is no exception :).

Calgary 1st

I shot this photos the other day on my way home from work. It is a look down 1st Street SW downtown in Calgary. These types of pictures are always fun for me, because I love the city and watching people buzzing around. The picture has a nice mix of different types of architecture and a few little things here and there that hold my attention, so I enjoy looking at it. I hope you do too!

The Train Over 10th

I was looking for a picture in my files this weekend and came across this picture. I totally forgot I even took it and can’t believe I didn’t rush to share it straight away, because I rather like this shot. It’s a nice view down 10th Street and it’s kind of cool with the train going by over top of the street. Views like this always make me love Calgary.

Fall Was Nice

I’d say we had a pretty decent fall here in Calgary this year. The two prior falls I experienced in Calgary were a lot shorter and winter blasted in from out of no where. This year it kind of eased its way into winter and I was able to adapt and mentally prepare for the Eskimo lifestyle I was about to endure. I took this picture a week or so ago, it has since snowed and this time it’s not melting away.

Sunset Over Calgary

I shot this on Tuesday evening off an overpass near my house. The previous day I was driving over said overpass at the exact same time I took this picture. As I crossed the overpass I saw right away what a great shot it could be, so I noted the time and came back the next day. The photo is not exactly how I had pictured it in my mind, but it’s pretty close :).

*Note: If you ever desire to see any of my pictures in a little larger size, I post most of them on my Twitter account in a larger size :). Also, sometimes I just can’t wait to get a picture out there and it might hit Twitter a day a head of here haha. Now I’m not saying go there instead of here, because this is where all the good stuff is haha ;). Just go there if you want to view a shot a little bigger.

Train Into The City

I shot this photo last night from SAIT (a local college). I got there a bit early and tried a few shots while it was lighter out, but I knew waiting till the sun when down more would give a much better effect. Once the sun went down more I waited for a train to go by so I could get the lights streaks in the shot. I had my camera on a 2 second timer, but timing for the train was still rather easy because just before the train comes into frame there is a cross walk with bells that ring. Anyhow, it was a nice night and I’m happy with the picture :).

Undercover in Calgary

On Saturday night a friend of mine and I went out to shoot some photos. It started ranging like crazy so we had to try to keep shooting under overpasses and covered areas, thankfully there are loads of these to choose from in Calgary. It eventually stopped raining, which allowed me to get the first shot. As you can see I decided to hop in one of the photos ;).
