Camera Man

After everyone in my house went to bed last night I decided to go out and shoot some photos. I had the idea for this picture a while back and I knew if I didn’t shoot it soon it would have to wait until the spring. The weather in Calgary has been pretty warm lately, but last night it dipped down to around 32F (0C). 32 doesn’t seem all THAT cold, but my hands were FREEZING!

Anyhow, about the picture. I shot this photo with my Nikon D800E & Sigma 85mm 1.4 shot wide open. I used one bare flash to camera left shot at 1/128th. I per-focused on the area I was going to stand using a little flashlight sitting on the spot. The flash light kind of worked, but focus wasn’t bang on (close enough though😉). I put my camera on a 10 second timer and jumped into position holding my trusty Nikon D3s in my frozen hand.

On The Edge

I was wondering around the city last night looking for some new locations to shoot a photo. I went up a set of stairs between some buildings and ended up here. As soon as I got to the top of the stairs I new I wanted to get out on the ledge. I checked it out and had the vision for the photo in my mind right away. The ledge was on some pretty tight quarters, so I had my tripod spread out just enough to stand on the opposite side ledge and I put one flash on the ledge behind my left foot. I shot this photo with my Nikon 14mm f/2.8 and I don’t think anything less would have been up for the job. The picture turned out exactly like how I had pictured it in my mind and when that happens it’s always a good feeling.

Selfie in the Night

After everyone at my house went to bed I decided I’d get out and shoot a photo. As soon as I got my gear in my car a light snow started to fall! I almost packed it in, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to take the few minutes drive to some buildings and see if I could find a covered area. Lucky for me when I got around some bigger buildings, it wasn’t snowing.

I shot this photo with my camera on a tripod with a 10 second timer. I used one Godox V860ii flash on the ground bare to camera right. It took a few tries to get something I was happy with. This picture was the last shot I took and it was just in time, as the parking lot security had just showed up to see what I was up too haha.

Plans by Myself

Shot @ f/1.2

I shot this photo on Saturday night. I actually had plans to meet up with a friend of mine, but then at the last minute he informed me the plans were a no go. At first I thought to myself, well that sucks. Then I thought, hey no problem I’ll just make plans with myself! I grabbed my camera and headed out the door for some solo fun.

I took this picture at one of my favourite view points in the city on Crescent Road. I was shooting with my Fujifilm X-E1 and my manual focus Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 lens. I prefocused on the bench I was sitting on and hopped on the bench. It took a few tries as it always does in a situation like this, but it was good fun and I got this cool picture out of it. 🙂

Enjoy The Sunset

exif-data-canon-5d-classic-ef-85mm-1-8I was out one day for a walk the park and was enjoying the sunset. I walked up on this couple who were taking it all in with a front row seat. That feather in the guys cap caught my eye and I thought putting the sun right between them would be perfect. I like how the sun looks in the picture and I love how it looked in person.

Enjoy The View

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-6d-24-105mm-f4-isSometimes you just gotta have a seat and enjoy the beauty around you. When you’re in Lake Louise there is no shortage of places to do just that. I think this particular spot is definitely one of the best places to take it all in.

I didn’t know this guy, but I thought it was a good look the way he was sitting by the lake. I ran up behind him and shot about 5 photos. I was shooting at 24mm, so you can image how close I was to him. After I shot the first photo, he looked back at me and I shot my second frame. Clearly he didn’t mind because he just turned his head back and kept enjoying the view. 🙂

Waiting for the Storm

rob moses exif data canon 6d 50mm 1.4I shot this one on Saturday night. It had been raining all day and the clouds looked rather menacing. I thought rather than just another city shot, I might hop in front of the camera to add a little something to the photo. I was shooting with a friend of mine and he had a 430EX Speedlite on him with some Radio Poppers flash triggers, so we set the flash up. We used the one flash to camera left with a small defuser on the unit. I would have preferred it if there was more lights on in the buildings, but I still like the way it turned out.

Well it’s game day in Calgary and all though I never wear my hat like this, I had to big up the Flames and show that flaming C :). I shot this photo last night while I was shooting some photos in the East Village. Soon to be  home to many of the Calgary Flames players I’m sure. Once they finish building it that is.

A Girl I Know

Camera: Canon 5D mark iii & 135L ~ Settings: f/2 – 1/80th – ISO 3200

I shot this photo 2 years ago, almost to the day! I was randomly on my old, OLD computer yesterday and decided to take a look around my old photos. I stumbled upon this shot I took of a lovely girl named Violet. I shot this for part of my People of Calgary project and ended up using a different shot for that. I thought this was a nice picture too, so I figured I might as well post it here.

Summer Never Seen Again

I took this picture last summer at this little block party we had in my neighbourhood. This girl lived 2 doors down from me and was one of the cooler neighbours we had, however we have since moved around the corner and I heard that she left the neighbourhood and headed to the suburbs! So as it goes in life, I may never see her or family ever again. Nice knowing ya! ;).

Into The Light

I don’t often take pictures of the back of people, but some how I thought in the particular moment it fit. Got a sharp point of interest, a nice bit of rim light from the light pointing our way and a row bokeh balls to finish off the frame. Not bad ;).

The Streets Are Watching

Last weekend and friend of mine and I went to Banff Alberta, Canada to shoot some photos. There was a block party going on and we were burning around there taking pictures. I did a lot of street photography that day and this is my favourite picture from the day.

I shot an event for my company back in October and I got a few good shots of some cute kids. I just stumbled upon the pictures on my computer and thought these ones would be worth sharing :).
