Abandoned Cancun

Well now that it’s all cold out around Calgary I am going to have to start digging through my files for photos haha. I know I should be getting out there, but I’m just not fired up about freezing my butt off in the snow. Anyhow, I took this picture last year in Cancun, Mexico. Some abandoned mall across the street from some beautiful hotels! I’m not sure what happened, but it looked like it used to be a pretty good little spot. Ah well, out with old I suppose.

Once Upon a View

I shot this photo out of the kitchen window of an abandoned house. It’s crazy to think that one day a very long time ago some one stood here doing dishes and looked out to the side of their beautiful new house with pride and joy. And now this, a barley standing shell of what it once was. The roof just barely hanging on and dipping down into the rubble of forgotten time.

Abandoned House Mannequin

Last weekend a friend of mine and I went out to High River, Alberta to check out this abandoned neighbourhood. The whole neighbourhood was built on in a flood zone and of course it had been flooded. The province(state) decided the residence could no longer live there so they bought everyone out. Anyhow, we walked around and checked out the scene and there really wants much to see, just looked like an empty neighbourhood because all the house are too new and the city is still cutting the grass. Once it got dark we dragged this mannequin into the neighbourhood (you could not drive in) and set it up in front  of this house for some weirdo shots haha.

We used one LED to camera left, another to camera right behind the tree lighting up house and one Canon 580EX ii Speedlite directly behind the mannequin for rim light.

It’s kind of a weird picture, but we had fun taking it! 🙂

Abandoned Lakefront

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-6d-28mm-1-8A friend of mine took me out to this abandoned farm to shoot some photos. The place was pretty spectacular and we got a lot of good pictures there. This building was especially interesting to me, because when they built it the owners must have been so happy to have this nice structure built right by the lake. I bet they never thought in a million years it would ever come to this. Life is crazy, better use it all up like it’s gonna end up like this.

Abandoned Car

Canon 6d 17-40mm exif data rob mosesI went out on a little photo adventure with a friend of mine over the weekend. My friend had scouted the location of this abandoned farm on another trip he had done in the area. After walking around the spot for 15 minutes or so, I noticed the car. I knew right away I was going to like the final product. The car is just placed in the perfect spot near the shore of the lake. Pretty crazy to think that car was once something special to someone and now it’s just sitting in the middle of nowhere slowly decaying. . . Ah well, out with the old and in the new I guess hey ;).

Abandoned

rob moses exif data canon 6d 17-40mmWhen I was down in Mexico recently I had the pleasure of poking around an abandoned section of a resort. From what I heard these places got hit by a hurricane and the people who owned them didn’t have insurance and decided not to brother fixing them up. The site had a bunch of these little houses and a main entrance with a bar and other amenities (will post picture of that place another day). It’s a shame nothing ever became of these places, because even in the shape they are in now, it doesn’t seem like they couldn’t be fixed. I’m sure right after the hurricane they were in much better shape too. Oh well, I guess the people who owned them must have been in a tight spot. Too bad!

Abandoned Water Park

I was shooting a house in Chestermere (20 min east of Calgary) a couple of weeks ago when I noticed some water slides across the highway. I drove over after my shoot to check them out, but there was not entrance to be found. Eventually I came across some old beat up fence with an over grown road and a little entry hut. After asking around a little I found out that the water park had opened up for only one year in the 1980’s. I guess the people who put it together did a bad job and people where getting hurt on the slides because the connections where not put together right. From what I heard, it closed after that one summer to never be opened up again.

I took these pictures with a Phantom 3 Professional drone. One day I want to get inside the premises and take some pictures from the inside with a proper camera. We’ll see about gaining entry though.
