I was shooting a house in Chestermere (20 min east of Calgary) a couple of weeks ago when I noticed some water slides across the highway. I drove over after my shoot to check them out, but there was not entrance to be found. Eventually I came across some old beat up fence with an over grown road and a little entry hut. After asking around a little I found out that the water park had opened up for only one year in the 1980’s. I guess the people who put it together did a bad job and people where getting hurt on the slides because the connections where not put together right. From what I heard, it closed after that one summer to never be opened up again.
I took these pictures with a Phantom 3 Professional drone. One day I want to get inside the premises and take some pictures from the inside with a proper camera. We’ll see about gaining entry though.
Thanks for stopping by, Rob
Are you still across the road while controlling the drone?
Yes I am Dennis. I took of from the Police station :).
Okay! I was looking for a guy with a controller! Drone photography sounds interesting. What kind of camera do use use for that? How does it minimize the affects of vibration?
Haha nice. Ya it’s fun. The one I am using these days has a camera build into it by the company (DJi). They got a pretty wicked image stabilization built into the camera with a gimbal and everything. It’s pretty impressive what a good job they did with all of that.
Interesting. Thank you!
Anytime 🙂
Bummer about the park and people getting hurt. Wonder why it’s all still just sitting there after so much time.
Ya it’s crazy hey! I just can’t believe they never fixed it up and reopened it. I’d totally go there, watersides are fun!
Totally! I just went to a water park in the first time in forever. I saw those abandoned slides and wish I had a big backyard to put them in! I’m thinking why didn’t the owners try selling off the slide parts after the park folded.
Ya no idea! It’s crazy. But ya, having slides you your yard would be pretty bad ass lol.
Well when I move out of my apt that’s going to be a requirement for my realtor: water slides lol
Haha I’m coming over!
Sounds good! 🙂 I bet it would be fun in the snow too!
The park used to be a camp grounds as well , it was all closed down because the sewer system was backing up into the water supply , pathways and grass , due to obvious health reasons it was closed until could be fixed , owner never fixed it !!
yeah, it looks a little scary…..
Haha right!
The abandoned and haunted water park bw-ha-ha….Cool shots…Happy Weekend Cheers =)
Thanks pal! Have a good one too! 😀
There’s something incredibly poignant about this place, Rob. Hope you get to shoot inside one day! Pip
The image reminds me of the Nazca Lines, Peru
Cool! Thanks 🙂
You take some very interesting shots. Thanks for sharing them!
Thank you for looking at them ;).
My parents and I drove right past this water park while on our way back from Montana. It was really strange to see a water park abandoned and locked up like that. I would love to go back and take pictures of the place though and if possible find a way inside.
What highway is it beside ?
Highway 1.
Hay does anyone know whom to contact about this property and its belongings? I am thinking of buying it and if not reopening there, then somewheres else close.
Hey Emily, I don’t know who owns it. But if you drive there, there is some kind of company buildings at the entry and if it’s not them, they will most likely be able to tell you who owns it.

i was there today because all of my friends have been there except me so i got really jumpy to go there. and its the same as walking into a horror movie haha. the building is all banged up spider webs everywhere glass shattered all over the place and empty spray paint cans you name it… whoever said they wanted to buy this place have fun cleaning up…
Oh cool! I haven’t been inside yet! I gotta get out there! You get some good pictures?
When I see images like that I keep thinking of site locations for Walking Dead.
Ya that would be a good location for that show for sure. 🙂

A deserted water park.
Night brings visitors.
Voices in the wind.
The slides come alive.
Shadows swoop with joy.
The moon as their witness

One of the worst aspects of shooting abandoned sites in Canada is having to deal with the red tape of accessing these places. Nice drone shot.
Agreed 100% Thank you 🙂
I was there opening day with am106 I performed on that stage.. Lol
