Phantom Over The Zoo

I have been flying around this DJi Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter lately. I took this picture with it flying over the Calgary Zoo. One of the most fun things around flying one of these things is having the ability to shoot photos of views people don’t really see. This picture is a good example of a view not seen. I only wish there was some animals walking around in the picture haha.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

  1. Oh wow…this is great. It sounds like a fun thing to have and get to use. The perspective is awesome. Are there many rules in Canada about drone use…It seems like they ban them in so many locations here in the US (National Parks, events, etc.)

    • Thanks! And yes there are a bunch of rules you need to follow here. To fly with out a “Special Flight Operations Certificate” you must fly a quadcopter under 2Kg. You have to be 18 years old or 16 with under academic supervision, have at least $100,000 liability insurance and then a long list of common scene type stuff. Oh and you need to carry proof of your insurance and a copy of Transport Canada’s Exemption form. And about the parks, I heard from some one down in Waterton Lakes National Park that they rangers there are not cool with you flying around haha.

  2. Great shot Rob. Looking lately a lot on YouTube about the Phantom 3 and the Inspire 1 you can do a lot with them and your photo already shows that. At least you don’t have to hire a airplane. 😉
