I was bored the other night so I decided to do a little product style photography. This old A-1 is sitting on my desk in my office/basement studio, so I just grabbed it and took this picture. For lighting I had 2 Canon 550EX Speedlites shot through umbrellas and one LED light pointing at the lens for the catchlight.
Camera: Canon 5D mark iii & 50mm 1.8 mark i – Settings: 1/8th – f/7.1 – ISO 1000
Lighting: 2 Canon 550EX Speedlites & 1 LED
Thanks for stopping by, Rob
Very nice work, Rob. This old SLR is a real blast from the past, and your lighting makes it look like it could very well go in a modern advertisement. An inspiring piece; thanks for sharing both it and your technique with us. 🙂
Thank you very much about the picture! I love these old cameras 🙂
What DSLR camera would you recommend under $500?
I’d say pick up a used Canon T3i and a 50mm 1.8. Great combo and you’ll get professional quality photos. I actually have that exact set up sitting on my desk right now, so I know for a fact is a good combo ;). 50mm on a crop sensor camera like that is a little long, so if you feel like spending a little extra, you might want to consider getting a Sigma 30mm 1.4 instead of the Canon 50mm. The Sigma 30mm actually give you the field of view of around 50mm on a full frame camera like the 5D series.
Hope that helps ;). Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to help.
Thank you! That is very helpful!
