Beautiful Palace

exif-data-rob-moses-sony-a7ii-zeiss-24-70mmI took to the streets one night in Cancun to shoot some long exposures. This was the very first picture I took that night and I could have easily just walked right back into my hotel and been happy haha. They got some really beautiful resorts around Cancun, and this one is one of my favourite.

4th Street Lights

exif data rob moses canon fd 20mm 2.8 ssc a7ii

Sony a7ii & Canon FD 20mm 2.8 SSC

The lights that line 4th Street in Calgary are wonderful at night. I wish all the streets looked like this. For this shot I had waited till some cars were waiting for the light to change, that way the street wouldn’t just be streaks of light. When shooting long exposures on the street it’s hard to get a proper feel for how alive the scene is. The lack of people in the shots is probably the biggest contributing culprit in that regard. If you’re not familiar with shooting long exposures, a person could walk right by you and they wouldn’t show up in the photo (unless a flash hit them). Anyhow, I thought the cars in the shot would help. Cars or no cars, it’s all about them lights though!

Commuting Calgary – Canon FD

Exif data Sony a7ii & Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC rob moses

I shot this photo at f/16.

I have been on a bit of vintage lens kick lately. I recently got my hands on a Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC. This is the first test shot I took with the lens on my Sony a7ii. The combination of these old Canon lenses on the a7ii is awesome and super fun to use. This particular lens can be found for pretty cheap (around $100. US dollars). For anyone with an a7 body and no 70-200, it’s kind of a no brainer to pick one of these up. The image quality is good and it is a joy to use. It’s also go this cool built in lens hood! Love the build quality of these classic lenses.

Calgary 1st

Camera: Nikon D300s & 70-210mm f/4-5.6D at 210mm ~ Settings: f/9 – 1/250th – ISO 800

I shot this photos the other day on my way home from work. It is a look down 1st Street SW downtown in Calgary. These types of pictures are always fun for me, because I love the city and watching people buzzing around. The picture has a nice mix of different types of architecture and a few little things here and there that hold my attention, so I enjoy looking at it. I hope you do too!

Downtown Vancouver

Camera: Canon 5D & 50mm 1.4 ~ Settings: f/9 – 1/50th – ISO 1000

I shot this photo about 5 years ago in Vancouver, BC Canada, back when I was still living there. I have been getting gathering some of my favourite photos to put together a page to sell prints. This particular shot is still one of my favourite and I have it framed and hanging in my house :).

Mild Winter Moment

Camera: Nikon D300s & Sigma 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye ~ Settings: f/10 – 1/80th – ISO 500

I was downtown yesterday meeting a guy about thing. I had my camera with me so I grabbed a couple quick shots. The weather in Calgary this winter has been pretty good lately. As you can see from the pictures it’s not exactly what comes to mind when one thinks of winter in the city. It was 48 degrees (9C) in Calgary yesterday and it looks to be staying around that mark for the next little while. That is good photography weather and I plan on taking advantage of it :).

The Train Over 10th

I was looking for a picture in my files this weekend and came across this picture. I totally forgot I even took it and can’t believe I didn’t rush to share it straight away, because I rather like this shot. It’s a nice view down 10th Street and it’s kind of cool with the train going by over top of the street. Views like this always make me love Calgary.

Down Centre Street

Here’s a picture from when you could walk outside with comfortable clothes on! haha. This is the view looking south down across the Centre Street Bridge here in Calgary.

I don’t post vertical pictures very often, so I’m not sure about what size I should post them at. Let me know if this is to big or not.

Sunset Over Calgary

I shot this on Tuesday evening off an overpass near my house. The previous day I was driving over said overpass at the exact same time I took this picture. As I crossed the overpass I saw right away what a great shot it could be, so I noted the time and came back the next day. The photo is not exactly how I had pictured it in my mind, but it’s pretty close :).

*Note: If you ever desire to see any of my pictures in a little larger size, I post most of them on my Twitter account in a larger size :). Also, sometimes I just can’t wait to get a picture out there and it might hit Twitter a day a head of here haha. Now I’m not saying go there instead of here, because this is where all the good stuff is haha ;). Just go there if you want to view a shot a little bigger.

A Drivers City

In Calgary you must have car! I think this picture kind of shows that :).

I had wanted to take this picture for well over a year now. I used to drive past here over one of those overpasses everyday and I would always want to get this picture, but it wasn’t easy. There is not path here and you can’t walk up from the street to this location, as there is no side walks anywhere near these busy streets and bridges. Right behind were I am there are houses. I went and scouted this location once in the fall and found out there was vacant house right where I need to get though to the wall. So now that all the snow is finally gone I decided it was time to get this picture.

When I arrived I had my regular tripod with me, because I thought I would be able to get a shot from the back yard of the vacant house, however there were trees in the frame and the wall was also blocking the street at the bottom of the picture. I knew I had to get the picture from the wall, so I went back to my car and grabbed my Joby GorillaPod and set my camera up on top of the wall and used live view to frame my pictures. The photo didn’t turn out exactly how I had envisioned, but it’s not bad.
