Sitting Strange

I’m not much of a bird photographer, but I never seen a bird sit like this on a tree before. Yesterday I was shooting some photos of a river and then I heard this woodpecker pecking away at a tree. The woodpecker looked very cool with black and white feathers. At the time I had a 16-35L on my camera and that’s all I had with me, so I shot my photos and headed back to my car to grab a long zoom lens. When I got back the woodpecker was still there on another tree, I walked around to get a little closer and he was gone! I kept looking around for him when I saw this little guy sitting sideways and a little inverted on this old tree. I thought it was a bit bizarre, but I honestly don’t know much about birds and there habits and really don’t spend too much time in the country where one might see such things. Anyhow, it got my attention, so there ya go ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh and by the way, I never did find that woodpecker again haha. Maybe next time!

  1. Hi Rob! I like your picture very much. That bird reminds me of a little bird I used to see in the woods in my country (Poland), when I was a child – and I’m pretty sure this one belongs to the same genus: Sitta. It’s their habit to sit on trees like this and it’s very specific for them ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. This is a very nice shot. And it’s true in my experience as well that many wildlife compositions happen on the spur of the moment. You just never know when one’s going to present itself. Good job being the johnny-on-the-spot.
