Brittany & Ben

I did an engagement shoot with Brittany & Ben last weekend. The weather was calling for rain and Brittany & Ben are in town from England and were leaving the next day, so rescheduling the shoot wasn’t exactly an option. Lucky for us the rain let up for pretty much the whole shoot. Thanks for that sky! I had so much fun with these two. Many laughs were had and we got some cool shots! Fingers crossed for better weather during the wedding next year, but either way I know we’ll have a good time and get some good pictures :).

Train Lights

Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

This part of the train line is one of my favourite to ride on. Your pretty high up and there a is a lot to look at from the train on this bit. You pass directly over a skate park and you ¬†have a nice view of the river, an inner city neighbourhood and the buildings downtown. It also makes for a nice picture! ūüôā

Portland Vlogs

I took a trip down to Portland last weekend and shot a little video of my trip. I met up with an old friend of mine from Vancouver and my brother in-law. If I was on my own I probably would have daily vlogged the trip, but when your with friends you can’t just be filming the whole time or you won’t have time to visit haha.

Pieces to the Puzzle

This picture is kind of cool because of all the action going on. At first glance you might not even notice, but there really is a lot happening. First off and most importantly, the couple walking across the bridge. Then of course the people on the boat and the other people about to launch their boat. Another important piece to this photo is the train going by in the background. I waited quite a while to get that train going by and to have a good shot of some people on the bridge before shooting the photo. All these little things might not be much interest to most people, but to me they all come together to make this picture something I can appreciate.

TriMet

I’m the type who prefers the train over driving, so the public transportation system in Portland is greatly appreciated by myself and other like minded people. Street Shot

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mmJust quick street shot I took while walking around Portland, Oregon. Portland is a great place for street photography because there are a lot of people around wherever you go. The people are also cool looking for the most part, so that is always a plus too :).

Commuting Calgary – Canon FD

Exif data Sony a7ii & Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC rob moses

I shot this photo at f/16.

I have been on a bit of vintage lens kick lately. I recently got my hands on a Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC. This is the first test shot I took with the lens on my Sony a7ii. The combination of these old Canon lenses on the a7ii is awesome and super fun to use. This particular lens can be found for pretty cheap (around $100. US dollars). For anyone with an a7 body and no 70-200, it’s kind of a no brainer to pick one of these up. The image quality is good and it is a joy to use. It’s also go this cool built in lens hood! Love the build quality of these classic lenses.

Street Meat & Subways

Camera: Canon 6D & 17-40L at 28mm ~ Settings: f/18 – 1/100th – ISO 400

When I lived in Toronto, we called these hotdog vendors “Street Meat” haha. I’m not sure what they call them in Edmonton, but I’m sure the Street Meat is just as good :). The dome of windows behind the people buying hotdogs is the entry to the subway station. Edmonton got it right on when they decided to put the subway underground downtown straight off the bat. Calgary on the other hand put the train above ground and down a main street downtown. The city said they would put it underground at a later date,,, right! Ya that’s not EVER¬†going to happen. Good job, whoever’s idea that was. Sure would be nice to be in a warm underground subway station in the middle of one of Calgary’s very long and cold winters!

Colorful Condos

Camera: Sony NEX-7 & 16mm f/2.8 with Sony Fisheye Converter ~ Settings: f/16 – 1/800th – ISO 1600

These types of newer style condos are everywhere in Vancouver, BC. When I was editing this photo my wife walked by and even asked me, “That’s crazy, is that Vancouver?” haha. Even though I agree it is very Vancouver’esk, this is indeed in here in Calgary.

Note: I made a rookie mistake in these shots. I had turned the iso way up for another photo and forgot to turn it back down before shooting these. WHOOPS!

You can order prints for framing in a lustre finish semi-gloss paper with vibrant colors in the following sizes: 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, 11×14.¬†If you want a canvas you can order beautiful Hand-Crafted premium gallery wraps made with strong 1-1/2‚ÄĚ deep poplar frames & UV protected laminate that protects & enhances. The gallery wraps are¬†available in: 16×24, 20×30, and 24×36.

The gallery is a little Calgary heavy at the moment, but I will be adding new photos all the time. I just gotta take a zip through my external hard drive and see what else I have on there that might interest people.

Not Waiting For A Train

Yesterday evening I was out¬†running an errand and naturally, I had my camera with me.¬†So before I headed home I decided to drop in on a subway station and see if I could get a picture. This lady was waiting for the train on the closest side to the escalator I came down. I waited for a train to pull in on the other side and snapped the first photo. I was happy with that picture, but I saw the next train was coming 1 minute away, so I though why not wait for that one and get one more picture. I’m glad I did, because I rather like both shots. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the title, I wasn’t taking the train, I just went down there to shoot some photos :).

The Train Over 10th

I was looking for a picture in my files this weekend and came across this picture. I totally forgot I even took it and can’t believe I didn’t rush to share it straight away,¬†because I rather like this shot. It’s a nice view down 10th Street and it’s kind of cool with the train going by over top of the street. Views like this always make me love Calgary.

Fall Was Nice

I’d say we had a pretty decent fall here in Calgary this year. The two prior falls I experienced in Calgary were a lot shorter and winter blasted in from out of no where. This year it kind of eased its way into winter and I was able to adapt and mentally prepare for the Eskimo lifestyle I was about to endure. I took this picture a week or so ago, it has since snowed and this time it’s not melting away.
