On The Railing

sony-a850-minolta-100mm-f2-8-macro-rob-moses-exif-dataI was out for a walk around the neighbourhood with my son Joshua yesterday evening. I wanted to shoot a photo with my Minolta 100mm lens and I figured I’d find something to shoot a long the way. When we got to the spot in the picture, my son suggested I just take a picture of him. I’m glad he made the suggestion, because I love how the photo turned out.

Frosty Climb City

exif data Canon 5D mark iii 70-200mm Rob MosesI had to climb a pretty big fence for this shot. I had driven by this location a long time ago and thought I might be able to get a good shot if I was to climb up the fence. I just happen to be driving near that location again today and I thought with all the frost on the trees and the clear sky, it might be worth trying out. I’m glad I made the stop, because I love a picture with buildings mountains together :).

If you check out this link by around 11:30am on Sunday you can watch the Periscope video of me climbing haha. Climbing Periscope Video

Timeless Fun

6d exif data rob moses

I’m sure most of us have done this before as a child and some of us as adults. Not exactly sure why dragging a stick a long a fence is so fun for a child, but it definitely falls into the timeless category in my book. This picture is of my son Cameron when we were walking to the park one day. 🙂

A Photo of Taking a Picture

Camera: Canon 6D & 17-40L at 22mm ~ Settings: f/4 – 0.5 seconds – ISO 4000

Last night I went out to shoot some photos downtown. After about 4 different locations I ended up here. At first I was just getting some skyline shots with the fence in the foreground, and then the idea to hop on the fence struck me. I hopped up on the fence triggering my camera with my trusty Canon RC-1 remote. Inspiration struck again with this idea. I shot this photo about 16 different times with a variation of different settings. I had to make sure the shutter didn’t stay open to long, because keeping that arm still enough to keep the phone sharp was quite a challenge. In the end a relatively quick aperture setting and a high ISO did the trick.

Oh and by the way, I didn’t actually take that picture with my phone haha. Getting a half decent shot of the skyline at night handheld with and iPhone 4s is near impossible. And yes I know, I need to update my iPhone ;).

Greener Times

Camera: Canon 6D & 24-105L @ 105mm ~ Settings: f/18 – 1/250th – ISO 640

A little through back to greener times in my neighbourhood. I can’t wait for it to look like this again. I’m getting tired of washing my car every 3 days and ruining perfectly good shoes to slush and snow. Here’s to an early spring! I hope ;).

Fave Apartment Building

This is my favourite apartment building in Calgary. A wonderful example of pre-war one architecture that is very hard to come by in this modern city.

Walking with Batman

We decided to take a walk down to the corner store for some ice cream yesterday and I snapped this picture of my son. Right after I took this picture he opened this gate and started walking to the door of the house! haha. I explained to him people probably wouldn’t like that and we went on our way :).

Run For It!

As you may know from my last post I was out on a little country drive on Friday. While I was driving I noticed a group of Elk & Deers on the side of the road up a hill, however they were to far to get a good picture, since the longest focal length lens I had on me was a Canon 70-300mm DO IS. Then about 50 yards down the road on the other side I noticed another group of Elk/Deer grazing a lot closer and to top it off there was a place for me to pull over! I quickly pulled in and grabbed my camera which was sitting on the seat next to me, jumped out and started shooting. I started whistling at them in the hopes to get a little action out of them. One of the deer didn’t like the whistling much at all and started running for it! The next thing I knew they were all bouncing across the field toward the fence, and once they got there they just started leaping over it like it was nothing! Amazing, to say the least. I grabbed a few more shots as they ran up the hill to joint their pals and then I hopped back in my car and drove back to the city. Sometimes living in Canada aint all that bad ;).

Winter Trees

I’m not a big landscape guy, but when I was driving through the country yesterday I couldn’t help but notice this row of trees. I thought it looked kind of cool so I pulled over and took a few shots. At first I thought it would have been better if the sky was completely clear and blue, but after looking at the pictures I like how the clouds kind of fade the sky in.
