A Walk On The Beach

My 8 year old son shot this photo of my wife and I walking on the beach in Cancun Mexico this past winter. I edited the photo for him, but he did a good job with the rest. 🙂

If you follow me on Instagram (@RobMoses) then you probably already know I was hanging out in Cancun Mexico over the last week or so. If you don’t follow me on IG, Hello! sorry for the disappearance! 😉 haha. Anyhow, my family and I took a little time off and did some serious relaxing by the beach. I shot a few photos while I was down there and actually made couple video’s too. Here is one of my favourite sunset shots from the trip and the videos. I’ll get a proper post together in the next couple days.

Cold Kal Lake

exif-data-rob-moses-sony-a7ii-55mm-1-8-zeissKal Lake in Vernon, BC is awesome! I spend more time there in the summer than the winter and when I am there in the winter I don’t usually get out for too many photos. Thing is, I’m not all that into winter, so getting out that door with my camera is a bit of a struggle. Thankfully my kids pretty much dragged me out the door on this day and I figured I’d be crazy if I didn’t bring my camera along. The weather wasn’t exactly at it’s best, but it had a calm to it that I think I captured in the photo. Right after this shot that calm ended pretty quick when my kids started tossing the biggest rocks they could find into the lake ;).

Ski Village Sign

I took this picture up at the Silver Start Mountain Resort in Vernon, BC. I though the snow on the sign with the ski village background looked just perfect. I didn’t get anything at the bistro so I can’t speak to their product, but the sign is good! 😉

Tokie The Cat

Sony a7ii & 55mm 1.8

Sony a7ii & 55mm 1.8

This lovely little creature is my wife’s parents family cat. Her name is Tokie and the shenanigans she has caused over the years has been that of legend. To keep things as brief as possible I will tell you just one Tokie Tale.

Last summer while visiting, I was letting Tokie inside before I went to bed. I open the front door and call for her. Sure enough like a good cat she comes prancing up to the door. As Tokie is nonchalantly walking by, I kind of notice something by her face. I close the door and scurry over to her as she’s walking down the stairs. When I stop her to get a better look I see a scene that looks straight out of a cartoon. There it is, a little tail wiggling around!!! “TOKIE!” I got her trapped half way down the staircase at a corner turn and lunge forward to grab her. In true cartoon style she spits the little mouse out! LOL The next thing I know I am franticly shoeing away a cat and trying to save a mouse. The mouse lays on the floor for 2 or 3 seconds as Tokie makes a run for it, then BOING! The mouse is back up on all fours and dashing from one way to the next. As I try and keep him in the corner I call for back up (waking up more than a few people I’m sure). Once the calvary arrives we get the mouse in tupperware container and back out the front door to fight another day. That mouse had one hell of a story to tell and just by the fur of his neck he had the chance to tell it. 🙂

Tokie the cat is a wild one to say the least, but I wouldn’t (and neither would she) have it any other way!

Summer time in the city is always the best! This is especially true for Calgary. The air is warm and the city is alive, a perfect set up for good picture taking. I shot this one on Wednesday night from Scotsman Hill. I used my Sony a7ii and Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 micro manual focus lens.

Hello Buildings

I was out for a little bike ride yesterday with my son and I stopped off to shoot this photo. The light hit the buildings quite nicely for a moment there and I like the way it was bouncing around the buildings. 🙂

Stranger in the Grass

Sony a7ii & 55mm

Sony a7ii

I was at one of my favourite skyline view locations in Calgary getting a shot of the city yesterday. While I was there I noticed this man sitting in the grass reading. It looked like the scene out of a movie or something, so I thought it might make a good picture. I walked up the guy and asked him if he minded me taking his picture while he was reading. Lucky for me he was a very friendly person and clearly didn’t mind having his picture taken. After I shot the photo he ask me if I could send him the picture and of course I said I would be happy to do so. A phone number and a text later and I was on my way. Thanks for being so easy going Nick!

Coeur d’Alene Sunset

exif data rob moses a7r 55mm sonyThis sunset looks particularly crazy because when I shot the photo there was some massive forest fires burning in the area. The entire region was covered in smoke and Coeur d’Alene was right in the thick of it. The smoke provided quite the hazy looking sunset, so for the shot it actually helped my situation. Of course forest fires are bad, but at least you can pull something positive from them if you try.

Gingerbread Mouse

exif data rob moses sony a7ii 55mm 1.8 ziessI dropped in on the Marriott hotel on the weekend to grab a coffee from the Starbucks in there. As soon as I entered the hotel I saw this wonderful Gingerbread town. This little mouse who was just chill’n on a bridge especially caught my eye, so I took a picture of him and went on my way. 🙂

Girls Taking Pictures

rob moses exif data sony a7ii 55mm 1.8 zeissI was out shooting some street shots one night in Banff Alberta, Canada. At this point I was taking a picture looking down the street to my right. When I turned I saw these 2 girls taking pictures down the other street, so I quickly snapped a photo of them before the kept on their way and me on mine. I love these fleeting moments with people when shooting street photography.

Candid Michelle

rob moses exif data sony a7r 55mm 1.8

This is a candid shot I took of my wife Michelle while we were in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho this past summer. Michelle doesn’t really seem to like any pictures of herself (this one included, but I’m posting it anyhow haha) and isn’t to keen on posing. When I took this shot she was looking at that sign in front of her and I was coming up behind her. I just stopped had my camera in my face and ready to go and said “Michelle”, when she turned I took the picture haha. The auto focus is a little slow on that Sony a7R, so I didn’t get her completely off guard, but at least I got a picture of her. 😉
