Autumn in Calgary

I shot this photo a few weeks ago and wasn’t going to share it because I thought it would make a better night shot. Then I figured there is no reason to not share both. I took this picture from the parking garage of a local college (SAIT). I was looking for portrait locations and while I was looking around I just snapped this photo for the heck of it. It aint bad, maybe a little heavy on the parking lot though.

Jawny

I met up with an old friend of mine last night and of course I just had to shoot a few photos of the guy. Catching up with your friends is always fun and taking pictures of people is too. Definitely fun times as always with Jawny!

Enjoy The Lights

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-50mm-1-4I took this picture right when I showed up to this location. These two were standing right in the perfect spot for me take a picture of them. They seemed to be enjoying the lights and from what I could tell they didn’t mind me taking their picture. I was shooting with a 50mm lens, so as you can imagine I was quite close to them and I am certain they could hear my camera clicking away. I suppose they were just another friendly couple in Edmonton, which I am sure there are many :).

Morning Sun

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-50mm-1-4I just caught the sun peaking over this massive mountain in Banff. Whenever I think of “The Rockies”, it’s a mountain exactly like this that comes to mind. Fun to catch it with the warm sun coming into the picture.

Scarves & Flowers

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-6d-50mm-1-4I was kicking around Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Washington one day when I noticed the statue of the old guy was wearing this beautiful knitted scarf. Although it did look a little odd with his iron suit, I thought it was wonderful. And to top it off, this nice little statue girl was giving him a real flower. Was a good day in the park for these two I’d say. 😉

Montana Signs

I love old signs like this! I think the “Sports Club” sign would be particularly awesome at night. Since I was only passing through this town (Shelby, MT) I didn’t have the opportunity to get a night shot of the sign. Even in the day light this sign still has a certain charm to it. Maybe next time I’m around I’ll plan to be passing through at night. 🙂

My son Cameron and I took a walk to the store the other day and on our way there I shot this photo. I think next time I’ll bring a tripod and hop in the picture with him. 🙂

I was down at the park with some friends and my family on Friday evening when I took these. My sons were having quite the time on the slide and decided doubling up on the slide might be a fun time. Looks like they were right. 😉

Little Lake, Big Mountains

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mm 1.4I took a little trip out to the mountains with my son this past weekend. We stopped at this little lake near Canmore, Alberta and skipped some rocks. I shot this photo before we left.

Happy Veterans & Remembrance Day

Massive big up to all the veterans who served their country! Incase someone doesn’t know, it’s Veterans Day today in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. This field of crosses is set up here in Calgary, Alberta Canada. It’s a nice thing to do to remind everyone of what people gave up in the past for this future.

Hipster Camera on The Hip

exif data rob moses Canon 6d 50mm 1.4

I had the idea for this shot for one reason, to show off the cool looking Canon A-1. I think the A1 looks extra cool with the grip attached to it, so I was thinking of how I could get a good picture with the camera being the main focal point and not just have it sitting there. I love a good skyline picture and I love bokeh, so I thought this little mixture would make a good shot.

Getting this shot was not easy, I was pre-focsuing because I left my RC1 remote at home. So I put a can on ground, pre-focused there, recomposed, put the camera on a 10 second timer and took my spot in the frame. After a dozen or so shots, I finally came up with this one. I actually had a friend with me and he could have easily shot the photo for me, but then it wouldn’t exactly be all mine would it? haha. Plus, the challenge of getting the shot on my own was half the fun :).

Nikon 50mm 1.8 vs 1.4 Video

I made this video yesterday that gives my thoughts on the Nikon 50mm 1.8D vs 1.4D. The test shots were very un-scientific. All pictures were taken hand-held, one after the other and the lighting in the room did not change.

This video was shot with a Canon T3i & 28mm 1.8 and a 5D mark iii & 16-35L. Sound was recorded with Rode Videomic Pro & a Blue Yeti Microphone.

The following pictures are the shots used in the video in the order they appear.

Let’s Get Personal

Calgary famous Starbucks coffee cup mug ipad keyboard bokeh dof shallow city skyline saddledome - Rob Moses Photography - Canadian American PhotographerCamera: Samsung NX100 with Canon FD 50mm 1.4 – Setting: 1/800th // f1.4 // ISO 100

I suppose this will be a rather personal post, as there is really no other reason I could think to post this picture haha. This is the coffee cup I start almost all of my mornings with. It’s a Calgary Starbucks cup! I LOVE Starbucks and am also a long time fan of their coffee cups. I lean towards this one most often because it’s a Calgary cup and that’s where I live right now :). Behind the cup is my iPad 3. I spend a lot of time using that for WordPress, email, Facebook, reading magazines and general surfing if I don’t feel like sitting at my computer. I guess that’s all for now, thanks for stopping by.
