More Buildings & Lights

The Calgary skyline is forever changing. There is a new building going up that is beside the bright one in the middle that is going to be awesome. The new building kind of turns as it goes up. I’m sure that’s going to be a wonderful building to get ultra wide angle shots of. There is also another big project going on near the bottom of the photo where the bright light is. I’m not sure what’s happening, but they got what looks like the beginning of a band shell or something along those lines. Whatever it is they are doing down there I’m sure it’s going to be great! I can’t wait to see it when it’s done, I’ll probably have to bust out the ol fisheye for that one. 😉

Street Shooting The Pearl

canon-6d-50mm-exif-data-rob-mosesI found myself walking down the street in the Pearl District of Portland and did a little street shooting. The color of this building really stood out to me so I held down the corner for a couple of minutes so I could get a person in my shot. This cool looking girl came around just in time :).

Beautiful Penticton, BC

I had been to Penticton, British Columba a couple of times before my last trip this past summer, however it was on this tip I really fell in love with the place. On my pervious visits, it was always a day trip. This summer I had the pleasure of spending a few days there and I got the chance to really take a look around and see what the place had to offer. I am 100% a city guy, however I could see my self living in a town like Penticton.

When I shot this photo I was just walking back to my car. I stopped to shoot the scene and thought if I waited till some people came walking by and caught them right in the middle of those trees it would be a better photo. I think I was right :).

Peace on the Peace Bridge

If you like a futuristic bridge, then the Peace Bridge here in Calgary, Canada is the one for you! I shot these photos with a fisheye lens. When I was getting the one of the guy taking a picture of the girl tossing up the “Peace” sign, I almost ran right into them because I was so close! haha. Thankfully they were cool and we had a little laugh :).

People On Their Way Home

Processed with MoldivYesterday afternoon I was out getting some stock video shots and it started to lightly rain, so I packed up and started heading home. On my way to my car the rain kind of stopped, so I decided to shoot a few photos of people on their way home from work. These pictures were taken at the top of a massive set of stairs, so some people might have been catching their breath haha.

I was shooting with a Canon 70-200mm f4 IS, which is a lot longer than I normally use for street stuff, but I already had it on from the video shooting and thought it might be fun to mix things up a little.

Enjoy 😉

Crosswords While Walking

I was walking across the Centre Street Bridge here in Calgary the other day and I saw this guy walking up the bridge doing a crossword puzzle while walking! I put my camera up to my face and kept walking in his direction waiting for him to put his face up to see where he was going like a whale in the sea bobbing up for air haha. As soon as that face popped up, CLICK! Gotchya! And I just kept on walking haha. His facial expression is hilarious, because he seems to be confused as to why there is a camera in his face rather than another zombie faced pedestrian haha. I love these little street photography interactions with people :).

A Friendly Walk

I shot this photo when I was out at a horse show here in Calgary not to long ago. This shot was rather random as I was just walking by and noticed this girl walking with her horse and snapped a quick one :).

Walking with Batman

We decided to take a walk down to the corner store for some ice cream yesterday and I snapped this picture of my son. Right after I took this picture he opened this gate and started walking to the door of the house! haha. I explained to him people probably wouldn’t like that and we went on our way :).

Spring in Canmore, Canada

Last weekend I was out in Canmore, Alberta Canada to escape the city for a little bit. On Sunday morning I decided to go for a little “spring” walk and take a look around the town to see if I could get any good pictures. Although it looks more like winter in this picture, it was still a nice morning for a walk and I think these guys would agree :).

A Walk in Chinatown

I was in Chinatown the other day here in Calgary and I took a few street shots. I decided to shoot 35mm just to mix things up a little and force my self to get a little closer to my subjects. I definitely prefer 50 over 30, but it’s fun to get a little closer every now and then.

Skyline View Walk

The other day went for a walk in Calgary‘s biggest inner city park, Nose Hill Park. I was up there shooting some photos of the mountains to the west. While I was shooting photos this nice lady walked by with her dog. By the time I decided to shoot a quick photo of her and change my settings she was too far for me to get her, the skyline and her dog in the frame, while keeping the amount of bokeh I wanted. I decided keeping the skyline in and skipping the dog would make a better picture, since the dog ran quite aways away from the lady and zooming so far out would have dramatically reduced the bokeh. I’m happy with how the picture turned out.

I added a picture of downtown Calgary from a little higher than I was for the woman walking shot. This isn’t the best spot for a Calgary skyline picture in my opinion, but it’s not bad as your higher than the city and it gives a little different perspective than the usual.
