Straight Out of Camera Strangers

I am the proud new owner of the Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 lens! I just got it yesterday and I had to go test it out, but I needed some people to take pictures of. I zipped over to Crescent Road in Calgary and met some strangers who didn’t mind having their picture taken. The featured picture is of Jesis, he was shooting a time lapse so I went over and started talking to him and after some Instagraming I got a picture of him. I also met this really friendly girl who was taking pictures of the skyline with her phone. We go to talking and we made a deal that I’d take some pictures of her with her phone and then I’d take some with my camera haha. Then the black and white picture, well these guys just came up to me lol. These guys were also out taking pictures and just came over to see what kind of pictures I was getting. Of course, I had to get a shot these kindred spirits. The night was fun and I got to meet some really cool people, always bonus!

All the pictures are straight out of the camera with no edits. Except for the B&W and the city shot. I just wanted to see how the color Fuji files would turn out in a black and white conversation. And the city shot just needed a touch of contrast a tiny pull back on the highlights.

The sun was in full sunset mode casting a very warm/pinkish light here↖︎.

Flames vs Rangers

Last night I went to the hockey game (as I often do). The Calgary Flames were hosting the New York Rangers and this time I decided I’d try to bring a camera along. I didn’t want to bring a proper DSLR with a big white lens that screams “HEY LOOK AT ME! I’M TAKING PICTURES!” lol. So I grabbed my Samsung NX100 Mirrorless with a 18-200mm OIS lens. I got to cap off a few shots during the first period, but then during the 2nd some one that works for the Saddledome (Flames Arena) came and told me I couldn’t take pictures with a camera that had interchangeable lenses. I kind of knew even that camera would be a problem, but figured it was wroth a try :).

Freak Snow

This picture is from back in September! We had a freak snow storm here in Calgary this year and this guy did not seem to stoked to be walking around in it haha. I could tell he was a nice relaxed kind of guy though, because I had to get extremely close to him to get this shot and he didn’t mind. I was shooting an ultra wide angle lens at 16mm (actually 24mm on the crop sensor camera), which isn’t exactly your ideal street photography focal length. I was actually just there to get a skyline shot, then I saw him walking along and decided to snap a photo.

More People of Calgary Action!

The People of Calgary

I met this fellow on a popular pathway by the river near Edwothy Park. I had just arrived, got my stuff ready and he was the first person to walk in my direction. While he was walking towards me I noticed he was wearing headphones, so my first thought was to just let him pass by, but I made the split second decision to just walk over to him, get his attention and then tell him what I was up to. Right when I stopped him and he took off his head phones I could tell he was a nice guy. I told him what was up and he happily agreed to participate. Here is what Ramah had to say.

Calgary By The River

The river that runs through Calgary is rather low now and there was a massive area for me to walk out on to get this picture. It was just me and a couple Canadian Geese hanging out shooting photos :). I actually got a picture with those guys in it, but I’ll post that one another day ;).

Dogs Like To Run Too!

I was driving home the other day a long this street that has a great view of the city. While I was driving I noticed this girl running with her dog. The dog caught my eye because he looked so happy to be out running. I kept driving and thought it might make a good picture if I could get them both in the frame, so I decided to pull over and see if I could get the shot. Just as I got my camera ready they came running by and I snapped this photo.

Nice People Park

The weather has been rather nice in Calgary these days. I stopped by this little park on my way home the other day and snapped this picture. I shot this photos right when I got there, then I when down the hill a little in front of this woman to shoot some photos of the buildings. After I took a few pictures, the woman from the picture had gone and I sat down in her spot and took couple pictures from there. While I sat there adjusting settings and taking pictures, I noticed another girl sitting on the bench beside me. I sat and took pictures for another 5 minuets or so. When I left I noticed the girl who was sitting beside me had got up and walked over to take some pictures of the skyline from the spot I was perviously at in front of the bench I was on. From what I gather, this very nice girl was waiting till I was done taking pictures to walk in front of me to take hers. This  lovely young woman had made my day and restored my faith that there are some nice and polite people in this city. Thank you! 😉

Sheep Dogs & Strangers in Banff

The other weekend a friend of mine and I headed out to Banff to shoot some photos. It just so happens that there was some type of Olympic block party going on the same weekend! Good luck for us right :). We ripped around Banff shooting photos and when the Sheep Dogs went on we were there. While bouncing around the party we bumped into a friendly group of people who invited us to stop off at their house party. Not being one to turn down a random adventure with strangers I said let’s go! So off we went! Here are just a few pictures of some of the cool Banff strangers we met.

Thanks for the invite and fun time guys! ;).

Wicked Interior

I shot this place yesterday and thought it was pretty cool, so I figured I’d share the pictures here. This place is just a few blocks down the street from my house and is selling for a whooping $1.7 MILLION Dollars! It’s a wicked house, but I would hope you could get a little more for 1.7 million, not in Calgary though.

Calgary Night Skyline

I went out to shoot a few photos last night and got some skyline shots. I shot these photos from Crescent Road in Crescent Heights. That street is probably my favourite street in city. The view you get while driving or walking on Crescent Road is amazing the whole way. If your ever in Calgary a drive down Crescent Road is a must.

After I got a few photos, I saw a biker coming up a trail bellow me with some crazy lights in the spokes of his wheels. It looked kind of cool, so just for fun I zoomed out and caught him riding by the bottom of the frame. That is was the random lights are at the bottom of the 2nd picture 🙂

Laetiti – A Nice Girl at Uptown 17th

Here’s another post from my People of Calgary blog 🙂

The People of Calgary

I went for coffee with a friend of mine today and we hit a couple art galleries. While we were on our way to the coffee shop I saw this girl I thought would be good for the blog, however we had just got downtown and it was not the time, so I didn’t bother asking her. After coffee and checking out a few good galleries, inspiration hit me to find some one for the blog. At first we took a stroll down Stephen Avenue and I asked one girl who looked cool, but she nicely infromed me that she wasn’t from Calgary, nor did she currently live in Calgary, DARN! Our parking was up, so we decided to head across town to Uptown 17th Ave to try our luck.

17th was great! We did a Pepsi taste test and won a couple Pepsi’s :). So with Pepsi’s in hand…
