Where Did Summer Go?

Whenever winter rolls around in Calgary I always feel like I didn’t get out enough during the summer. I take a look through the photos I shot and think, what the hell was I doing all summer? I do have a decent amount of photos I can use if I don’t feel like going outside to freeze, but I now that’s it’s cold out I can’t help but think I was missing out in August. Ah well, there’s always next year! Here’s a sunset from this past summer.

Out in These Streets

I was out kicking around Calgary last night shooting some photos. It wasn’t a particularly nice night for it, because the sky was rather dark, but there were people out and the atmosphere of the city made up for the dark skies. I met 4 different people and we all followed each other on Instagram. The first picture is one of those people. Big up to everyone down to meet someone new on the city streets at night. 🙂

Sunburst City

I’m a sucker for a good sunburst and I’ll try to grab one whenever I can. The thing I really love about these pictures is that sunburst is the reflection of the sun off of a pretty cool looking building! If your a city guy (or girl) like me, then that’s what it’s all about ;).

Oh ya, and that dude that’s practicing his karate moves is hilarious! 🤣

Train Lights

Canon FD 50mm f/1.2

This part of the train line is one of my favourite to ride on. Your pretty high up and there a is a lot to look at from the train on this bit. You pass directly over a skate park and you  have a nice view of the river, an inner city neighbourhood and the buildings downtown. It also makes for a nice picture! 🙂

Overpass

This is a C-Train (local subway) overpass that connects downtown to my neighbourhood in Calgary. Next stop, my house! 🙂

A Downtown View

I shot this one from Tom Campbell Park by my house in Calgary. I don’t live to far from this place and on my way home one night last summer I decided to stop by and shoot a photo with my 300mm. Earlier in the night I was out with a friend of mine shooting some photos a lot farther away from the city, I thought I might stop off here and see what kind of results I got a little closer in. Not a bad shot, but then again it’s pretty easy to get a decent shot from Tom Campell Park.

Pieces to the Puzzle

This picture is kind of cool because of all the action going on. At first glance you might not even notice, but there really is a lot happening. First off and most importantly, the couple walking across the bridge. Then of course the people on the boat and the other people about to launch their boat. Another important piece to this photo is the train going by in the background. I waited quite a while to get that train going by and to have a good shot of some people on the bridge before shooting the photo. All these little things might not be much interest to most people, but to me they all come together to make this picture something I can appreciate.

Exif data Sony a7ii & Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC rob moses

I shot this photo at f/16.

I have been on a bit of vintage lens kick lately. I recently got my hands on a Canon FD 80-200mm f4 SSC. This is the first test shot I took with the lens on my Sony a7ii. The combination of these old Canon lenses on the a7ii is awesome and super fun to use. This particular lens can be found for pretty cheap (around $100. US dollars). For anyone with an a7 body and no 70-200, it’s kind of a no brainer to pick one of these up. The image quality is good and it is a joy to use. It’s also go this cool built in lens hood! Love the build quality of these classic lenses.

Not Waiting For A Train

Yesterday evening I was out running an errand and naturally, I had my camera with me. So before I headed home I decided to drop in on a subway station and see if I could get a picture. This lady was waiting for the train on the closest side to the escalator I came down. I waited for a train to pull in on the other side and snapped the first photo. I was happy with that picture, but I saw the next train was coming 1 minute away, so I though why not wait for that one and get one more picture. I’m glad I did, because I rather like both shots. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the title, I wasn’t taking the train, I just went down there to shoot some photos :).

The Train Over 10th

I was looking for a picture in my files this weekend and came across this picture. I totally forgot I even took it and can’t believe I didn’t rush to share it straight away, because I rather like this shot. It’s a nice view down 10th Street and it’s kind of cool with the train going by over top of the street. Views like this always make me love Calgary.

Sunset Over Calgary

I shot this on Tuesday evening off an overpass near my house. The previous day I was driving over said overpass at the exact same time I took this picture. As I crossed the overpass I saw right away what a great shot it could be, so I noted the time and came back the next day. The photo is not exactly how I had pictured it in my mind, but it’s pretty close :).

*Note: If you ever desire to see any of my pictures in a little larger size, I post most of them on my Twitter account in a larger size :). Also, sometimes I just can’t wait to get a picture out there and it might hit Twitter a day a head of here haha. Now I’m not saying go there instead of here, because this is where all the good stuff is haha ;). Just go there if you want to view a shot a little bigger.

Cool Vintage Sign

A new train station recently opened up in Calgary and they re-erected this old sign. When I first moved here I noticed the sign in front of a cool old gas station that looked like it belonged on the set of “Back to the Future”. I never got a picture of the building, because I never thought they would tear it down or move it. Anyhow, they did move the building (I believe), but I’m not sure where to. I am happy they fixed up the old sign and put it back up though, it’s brings a real charm to the Tuscany C-Train Station.

Train Into The City

I shot this photo last night from SAIT (a local college). I got there a bit early and tried a few shots while it was lighter out, but I knew waiting till the sun when down more would give a much better effect. Once the sun went down more I waited for a train to go by so I could get the lights streaks in the shot. I had my camera on a 2 second timer, but timing for the train was still rather easy because just before the train comes into frame there is a cross walk with bells that ring. Anyhow, it was a nice night and I’m happy with the picture :).
