Aurora

So we got some family in town visiting from Edmonton and BC. My sister in-law brought her friend Aurora along. We were all hanging out talking yesterday and I thought I might as well get a picture of Aurora. We just stepped in front of my house and I shot the photos with natural light.

I used two cameras, the fist picture I took with my D800E and my Sigma 85mm 1.4. The 2nd shot I took with my Sony a7R with a old manual focus Nikon 50mm 1.8. I edited both photo quite differently, the first is more of what I always do and the second a little more of a dull/darker style. Anyhow, I like them both and it’s always nice to take pictures of a new face.

Summer Cycle

exif data rob moses canon 6D 28mm 1.8Calgary has some nice biking paths around the city. There are some nice views and great places to stop along the way. I personally wouldn’t be caught cruising around on the paths right now as it is currently 16°F out and I’m sure I’d freeze to death and if that didn’t kill me I’d surely hit some ice and crash into something that would take me out haha. However, when summer hits, these paths are wonderful! ;).

Melissa for Coffee

Lens: Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 @ 1.2

Lens: Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 @ 1.2

This is Melissa, she is one of the realtors I work with. Yesterday I heard her say she was heading to a coffee shop by our office, so I cased her down so I could get a picture of her. She didn’t want to have her picture taken since I didn’t give her any warning, but I insisted :). I took this right in front of the coffee shop and I shot a few frames. Melissa actually preferred another shot I took of her where she wasn’t smiling so much. I thought she looked so happy in this picture, so I decided to use this one anyhow haha.

Michelle

exif data rob moses Canon 6D 70-200mmMy wife Michelle needed a head shot for something or other, so I took this picture of her yesterday. The lighting set up I used consisted of 3 Canon Speedlites. I had one 580EX ii to camera right shot into a white bounce umbrella, one 580EX ii to camera left shot into a smaller white bounce umbrella and one 580EX point down from above for a hair light.

Candid Michelle

rob moses exif data sony a7r 55mm 1.8

This is a candid shot I took of my wife Michelle while we were in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho this past summer. Michelle doesn’t really seem to like any pictures of herself (this one included, but I’m posting it anyhow haha) and isn’t to keen on posing. When I took this shot she was looking at that sign in front of her and I was coming up behind her. I just stopped had my camera in my face and ready to go and said “Michelle”, when she turned I took the picture haha. The auto focus is a little slow on that Sony a7R, so I didn’t get her completely off guard, but at least I got a picture of her. 😉

Flames vs Rangers

Last night I went to the hockey game (as I often do). The Calgary Flames were hosting the New York Rangers and this time I decided I’d try to bring a camera along. I didn’t want to bring a proper DSLR with a big white lens that screams “HEY LOOK AT ME! I’M TAKING PICTURES!” lol. So I grabbed my Samsung NX100 Mirrorless with a 18-200mm OIS lens. I got to cap off a few shots during the first period, but then during the 2nd some one that works for the Saddledome (Flames Arena) came and told me I couldn’t take pictures with a camera that had interchangeable lenses. I kind of knew even that camera would be a problem, but figured it was wroth a try :).

This Girl Again

One day when I was shooting photos on the Centre Street Bridge in Calgary, I noticed a girl running whom I had taken a picture of not once, but twice before up the hill at Crescent road! haha. By the time I realized who she was, I had missed my opportunity for a front shot, so I quickly turned and took one from the back just to keep the set going haha. I hope she stumbles upon this blog one day and finds a picture of her self :).

A Friendly Walk

I shot this photo when I was out at a horse show here in Calgary not to long ago. This shot was rather random as I was just walking by and noticed this girl walking with her horse and snapped a quick one :).
