Abandoned Bike?

While I was walking home from downtown the other night I came across this bike that was just parked on a deserted pedestrian bridge. It was really strange. At first I just walked by and kept going, but I decided to turn around and get a picture. After a while of shooting photos this lady who seemed to be experiencing life on the street, walked over to me on the bridge. She told me the bike belonged to her friend who was having out over by a building not too far from the bridge. She then proceeded to attempt to ride off on the bike. She seemed like she was struggling a bit with the riding of the bike, but I figured I’d better just mind my own business and keep going.

I think this situation was one of two things. 1. The bike was in fact her friends bike, who decided it was a good idea to park it in the middle of the bridge where anyone could just hop on it and take off (bikes are very commonly stolen in Kelowna). Then proceed to completely leave the bridge and go hang out some where else for a while. If you’re on drugs, maybe this is possible. But when she came to pick up “her friends” bike, she just left the helmet that was there with the bike. Wouldn’t her friend want that?

OR 2. Someone had just left the bike there as a type of donation for anyone who wanted the bike. Like how sometimes you just leave something in a city ally that is free for the taking. I think this is much more likely, as it wasn’t a terribly nice bike and leaving it on this bridge would be a good place to leave it for someone in need as these type of people like to hang around the other side of this bridge at night time. Either way, the bike seemed to have found its desired destination, so all is well in the world.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob
