Some of you long time visitors to this blog will probably remember my son Joshua playing hockey for so many years. Sadly Joshua decided he wanted to quit playing hockey and play basketball. Of course I was sad about him quitting hockey because I loved watching him play and I just love the game in general. However I also love basketball, so I am happy he had found another sport he loves.
Last night I took a break from my coaching duties and took some pictures of Joshua playing. He as been having an amazing season so far and last night was no different. Joshua scored 21 points and even shot a pretty wicked 3 pointer. The team has been on a roll with a 7-1 record and no signs of slowing down. Everyone is have fun! This is actually only the 2nd time I’ve shot any basketball photos, so it was pretty fun for me. It’s definitely a lot different than shooting hockey.
I was shooting with a Canon 1DX with a 70-200mm f/2.8 ii, a 50mm f/1.4 @ 2.5 and a 16-35mm f/2.8 ii. The gym wasn’t exactly bright so my ISO was super high, around 6400-10,000. Considering the age of the body I was using I am pretty happy with the results. I could have cleaned up the images a little with some noise reduction, but noise has never bothered me and since I’m a film shooter I actually like the look of a grainy photo so I left the photos as they were. I could probably get cleaner images with my Sony a7Riii, but dealing with 42MP file sizes when shooting in high-speed continuous burst mode would be a nightmare. Anyhow, I had fun shooting these photos and I’m looking forward the next time I get to shoot some more basketball photos.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob
I remember those hockey photos! He has grown! Long as he likes the sport–that’s what matters. 7-1?! Great coaching, Rob!
Yes your right Lois, as long as he’s likes it and is having fun that’s what’s important. I also played basketball growing up, so I’m happy to see him taking that path too. Oh and thanks about the coaching! 😉
Like Lois said, long as they love the sport they’re playing. If your son was ever to say “equestrian sports,” have your checkbook ready (lol). My daughters are showjumpers.
Agreed David. Show jumpers! Ya that sounds a little pricey! If my son wants to get into that I’ll tell him he’ll be the one doing the jumping. 🤣
LOL.
