A Downtown View

I shot this one from Tom Campbell Park by my house in Calgary. I don’t live to far from this place and on my way home one night last summer I decided to stop by and shoot a photo with my 300mm. Earlier in the night I was out with a friend of mine shooting some photos a lot farther away from the city, I thought I might stop off here and see what kind of results I got a little closer in. Not a bad shot, but then again it’s pretty easy to get a decent shot from Tom Campell Park.

Lighting

exif data rob moses canon 6d 300mm f:2.8Nature is awesome! Right before I took this picture I actually had my camera pointed in the opposite direction. I was shooting some photos of the Calgary skyline when I noticed some flashing going on behind me. Excited at the prospect of getting a lighting bolt picture I spun my camera around and started snapping. I love how the lighting was lighting up the clouds and sky around the immediate area. Nature can put on quite the show if you find yourself in the right place at the right time. 🙂

Apartment with a View

exif data canon t3i 300mm f:2.8 2X rob mosesI shot this photo on Saturday night. At first I thought I was going to shoot at a locationmuch farther from the city, but by the time my friend who was going me showed up at my house we didn’t have enough time to get any farther out of the town. Since I only brought this one set up with me, I was forced to shoot a lot tighter than I was expecting. Situations like this are sometimes a downer, but being forced to shoot something you might otherwise not shoot is always a good thing to me.

Rocky City Sunset

Rob Moses Exif data 6d 300mm 2.8

Yesterday evening, straight after dinner I raced out of my house to a predetermined location. When I got in my car the sun was starting to set and I worried I had waited to long to leave. By the time I got to the location the sky had not yet turned colourful. This was good, because it gave me a little time to set up and try a few different spots to get my angle just right. As soon as that sky started changing colour I started snapping! It was beautiful night to shoot the skyline and the mountains in behind the city really make the photo something special. Pictures like this kinda make me love this place :).

Camera – iPhone 4s

Last weekend I was at my local Starbucks enjoying a coffee and testing out a new photo editing app (Pixelmator, verdict is still out). Once my editing time was up / coffee was done, I started walking home. When I got to the top of the hill I stopped to take in the sunset that was falling behind the city. Naturally I had a camera with me, so I pulled it out and put on my Nikon 100mm f2.8 AIS (manual focus) lens and shot this photo. I love this view of the city and I think this shot reflects the beauty of this vantage point.

Flying Under Moonlight

Yesterday evening I caught this WestJet flight flying under the moonlight. I waited around trying to get another shot of a jet flying right in front of the moon. I came close as you can see in the 2nd picture, however the shot was not meant to be at that moment. Next time! ;).

Fun at Canon Image Square

On Saturday a friend of mine and I met up downtown for a street photography mission. We started walking up 8th Avenue shooting random photos of people walking by and interesting things we saw. As we were walking along something very interesting caught my eye, it was the Canon Image Square. I had heard about this place and had been meaning to go check it out. It looks like Canon only camera store, but they don’t sell anything! They got every lens and camera Canon makes and you can try them all out! They also have a little studio space you can rent out.

One of the fun things they have is all these little mini world scenes set up for you to test out the cameras and lenses. At first I was just using my own Canon 5D mark iii & 50mm 1.4 & 28mm 1.8, but then I decided to give their 8-15mm Fisheye a go, WHOA! What fun little lens. Once I got that on I was burning around shooting up a storm as fast as I could since I knew my friend wanted to get back to the streets. I think we’ll head back again when we got more time, because I could spend hours in that place and I’m sure I will! haha. Anyhow, if you live in or around Calgary and your interested in photography this place is a MUST! It’s at 545 8th Avenue SW in the city. If you make it there I hope you had as much fun as I did! 😉
