Best Photographer Finalist

So last month I got an email that said (among other things) “You were recommended for the Calgary Event Awards as an amazing event photographer”, I’ll leave out all the other boring stuff, but that line pretty much says it all. Anything like that is always nice to hear, so with that email I tossed my hat in the ring. Then a week or so later I got another email that read “Calgary Event Awards 2017 – Finalists” and then “Congratulations!” blah, blah, blah. Nice! I guess some other people kinda like what I do too. So as it turns out I’m up for Best Photographer and it’s between two other photographers and myself. The awards are on March 2nd, so I’ll be sure and let you guys know if I win or not. 🙂

Lake House Wedding: Sunyoung & Santi

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-24-70mm-f2-8-l-5d-mark-iiiAnytime I book a wedding in late October or early November in Calgary I worry about how the weather will be. Usually this time of year we are walking around in snow! Sunyoung and Santi’s November wedding definitely had me concerned about what kind of weather we were going to be dealing with. Lucky for us, the weather was great! Well, at first it was decent, as in not snowing or cold. Since the ceremony was indoors the overcast sky didn’t really bother me.

Of course the ceremony went wonderful and since this was a day wedding we had an amazing lunch at the Lake House at Lake Bonavista. As usual I was moving around the venue shooting my photos, all while keeping my eye on the windows to see how the skies were looking. Once it was time for us to leave the venue to our photo shoot the skies had yet to clear up. Overcast can be a wonderful friend while shooting wedding photos, but some blue sky and sun is always nice too. Either way I’ll make it work, but then I saw a few breaks in the sky and had my fingers crossed for a bit of sun.

As luck would have it, about 20 minutes into our photo shoot the sun decided to make an appearance and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! We had just finished setting up by the river and wa-la, the sun! I couldn’t have been happier and I am sure Sunyoung & Santi feel the same way.

All photos shot with a Canon 5D mark iii, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8 & 1 580EXii Speedlite

Scarves & Flowers

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-6d-50mm-1-4I was kicking around Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Washington one day when I noticed the statue of the old guy was wearing this beautiful knitted scarf. Although it did look a little odd with his iron suit, I thought it was wonderful. And to top it off, this nice little statue girl was giving him a real flower. Was a good day in the park for these two I’d say. 😉

Anytown USA

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mm 1.4This is just some really country looking flower shop’s store front I was walking by in Port Townsend, WA one day. The idea of Anytown USA popped into my head when I saw the store, so I grabbed a quick shot. If I was going to be putting together a country cabin, this is a store I’d stop by to pick up some decorating items :).

Bright Night In This City

This shot was taken right before the snow started to fly in Calgary. It is the south-west corner of the Olympic Plaza. I really like the old building on the left side of the frame. I wish there was more of these types of buildings still around in Calgary.

Canon FD Lens to Samsung NX Converter

Samsung NX100 famous Canon FD 50mm 1.4 adapter - mirrorless camera - Rob Moses Photography

I have a Samsung NX100 mirrorless camera that takes really great pictures, especially of people. I also own some great old 70’s era Canon FD manual focus lenses from the film days. So I bought a FD to NX converter to use my Canon FD lenses on my NX100. The converter came in the mail today and I took a couple test shots with it. I am very happy with the results so far and will do some more shooting with it once the weather improves around here. Here are a few samples from the camera and lens combo.
