A Bike Ride to the Mayor

I was out on a bike ride along the Bow River here in Calgary taking some pictures this morning. I stopped at the Centre street bridge and shot a few photos and while I was at it I took some with my iPhone. For this shot I had a fisheye attachment called the Ollo Clip on my phone. The quality of the fisheye isn’t out of this world haha, but it’s a fun little accessory.

While I was cruising on my bike I stopped off for a drink of water at a public fountain on Princes Island. When I looked up I saw the Mayor of Calgary Naheed Nenshi walking towards me! He was with a  few people he looked to be showing around, so I said a quick hello and snapped a quick picture with my phone :).  Fun times going down in Calgary this weekend!

Madison

I noticed I haven’t posted very many people pictures on here that last little while, so I though I’d post this picture I took of Madison in the fall. This picture was part of my People of Calgary Project and was posted there. I figured since not everyone that comes here reads that blog it might be worth reposting here :).

The Look

I was downtown not to long ago and I saw this guy shooting some video of a sign. I walked over and took a picture of him, then he noticed I was beside him pointing a camera at him and when he looked at me he had this hilarious look on his face! LOL. It made me laugh, I said a quick “Hi” and kept walking haha.

Friendly Staff

Not too long ago I found my self down at local pub watching the Calgary Flames (NHL Hockey) game with my cousin. We watched the game, had a few drinks and eventually got to chatting with some of the staff. This friendly waitress was nice enough to let me take her picture. Shooting people at 28mm has never been my thing, but I kind of like one.

I shot an event for my company back in October and I got a few good shots of some cute kids. I just stumbled upon the pictures on my computer and thought these ones would be worth sharing :).

Family Time

This nice little family is taking a look back at my last post haha. They were actually pretty nice, I was across the street shooting and they were admiring the view. At one point they turned around to me and asked me if they were “in my shot”, and offered to move if they were. Little did they know, they were the shot! ;).

Fall Flare

I’m sure it still looks like this in some places in the good ol US of A, but not here in Calgary, Canada haha. I took this picture a couple of months ago. Today I woke up to howling winds and snow this morning and decided it would be a good time to stay in and edit a couple of pictures I took earlier in the year :).

I like this picture because it’s not a typical view of Calgary you would see. This picture is over looking the neighbourhoods of Roxboro & Rideau Park, and believe it or not those buildings are in ANOTHER neighbourhood called Mission. Calgary is a strange place, in that you can walk 5 or 10 blocks and you’ll be in a different neighbourhood with another name. Personally I don’t see the point in that, but whatever haha.

Alley Reflection

Alley action from downtown Calgary, Canada. I don’t shoot a lot of alley photos, but I was just walking down this one and noticed the reflection in the water. A few seconds after I noticed the reflection, I noticed that guy walking around the corner and saw he was trying to zip out of my frame. I quickly snapped this shot before he could get out and am I ever glad I did, because I shot another photo after he was gone and it wasn’t nearly as interesting. Also, the guy way the background had moved out of frame right after the first guy did, so the quick shot saved this picture from being a bit of bore :).

I picked up a new lens recently that I had been thinking about getting for quite sometime. I was torn between the Canon 28mm f/1.8 & the Sigma version. I decided to go with the Canon version because of the size and weight (smaller & lighter). The lens performs decent wide open as you can see from the shot of my son bellow, however if you are pixel peeping on some printed letters at 1.8 you might not be all that impressed. With that said, real world use in regular type pictures are all good wide open.

On a side note, the lens came with the filter on it and I am kind of moving away from them at the moment. I was going to just take it off, but thought I might leave it on for a bit and see how I feel. The extra protection is nice, but I think it looks kind of ridiculous with the filter on it haha. I will do a full post on this subject in the future.

Sitting Around In This Bright City

Last night a friend mine and I went downtown to shoot some photos. I shot this one of my self looking at my favourite building in the city. I had my camera set up on a tripod and ran over to the spot I am sitting in and stayed as still as I could for the 15 seconds while the shutter was open :).

An Evening Bike Ride

Last night after dinner my wife and I decided to take our children on a little bike ride (them biking & us walking) to the park. Since it was getting dark when we left and was only going to get darker I decided to use my 50mm f/1.2. Here are a few of the pictures from our walk/ride. 🙂

Oh and by the way, we forgot their helmets and only realized it after we had left the house, so we decided to pretend it was the 1980’s and let them cruse with out them haha.
