Beautiful Palace

exif-data-rob-moses-sony-a7ii-zeiss-24-70mmI took to the streets one night in Cancun to shoot some long exposures. This was the very first picture I took that night and I could have easily just walked right back into my hotel and been happy haha. They got some really beautiful resorts around Cancun, and this one is one of my favourite.

Great Horned Owl & Friend

exif-data-canon-t3i-70-300mm-is-do-rob-mosesThis big Great Horned Owl was hanging out in a tree in front of my house last month! He was sleeping there for a few hours and after a while this Magpie bird came over and started hanging out with it haha. Pretty cool thing to see out your bedroom window 🙂

Morning Sun

exif-data-rob-moses-canon-5d-mark-iii-50mm-1-4I just caught the sun peaking over this massive mountain in Banff. Whenever I think of “The Rockies”, it’s a mountain exactly like this that comes to mind. Fun to catch it with the warm sun coming into the picture.

Little Lake, Big Mountains

exif data rob moses canon 6d 50mm 1.4I took a little trip out to the mountains with my son this past weekend. We stopped at this little lake near Canmore, Alberta and skipped some rocks. I shot this photo before we left.

Night of Mountains

exif data rob moses 6D 70-200mm f:2.8 IS 2X iiThese mountains kind of came out of nowhere for me. At the time, I was just trying to get some shots of downtown. After I had all the shots I wanted I decided to point my camera in another direction just to see what I might get. To my surprise the mountains were clearly visible in the photo! It was so dark at the time I couldn’t really even see them with my eyes. You could barely make out a mountain outline if you looked really hard, but just looking in the direction the scene looked black behind the buildings. It was a nice little surprise and I’m happy I pointed my camera that way.

Selfie with a Wild Elk!

exif data rob moses a7ii 24-70mmWhile I was in Banff last weekend I saw this massive wild elk just walking down the street! I quickly pulled over, jumped out of my car and ran over with my camera. A small crown quickly gathered, everyone with their cameras and phones out. These girls were right beside me and started taking selfies, so I grabbed a couple pictures of them haha. I showed them the picture after and they laughed. I’m not sure how their selfies turned out, but this one was a keeper!

Kananaskis Country

I took a drive an hour west of the city this weekend to a little place known as Kananaskis Country. There really isn’t much out there, but the forest, mountains and whatever nature has to offer. Since I live right in the city, from time to time a trip to a remote place like Kananaskis is exactly what I need. The weather was kind of wired the day I was there. In the photo it was raining behind the first mountain and sunny where I shot the photo from. The weather situation made for a dramatic picture.

Sunset Over Calgary

I shot this on Tuesday evening off an overpass near my house. The previous day I was driving over said overpass at the exact same time I took this picture. As I crossed the overpass I saw right away what a great shot it could be, so I noted the time and came back the next day. The photo is not exactly how I had pictured it in my mind, but it’s pretty close :).

*Note: If you ever desire to see any of my pictures in a little larger size, I post most of them on my Twitter account in a larger size :). Also, sometimes I just can’t wait to get a picture out there and it might hit Twitter a day a head of here haha. Now I’m not saying go there instead of here, because this is where all the good stuff is haha ;). Just go there if you want to view a shot a little bigger.

Jumping Joshua

Yesterday evening my son Joshua and I stopped off downtown to shoot a couple of photos. Joshua decided he felt like jumping around, so I snapped a couple of photos of him doing his best Parkour impression 🙂

American Eagle in BC

I just stumbled upon this picture yesterday evening (in my files) and it was the first time I really took a good look at it haha. I shot this photo while out on a walk in Castlegar, British Columbia. I was only able to get a 4 or 5 shots of him before he flew away. Unfortunately I only had my 70-200mm with me at the time of this sighting, however I was able to do a rather harsh crop job on the photo for it to look ok haha. On my next trip back to BC or WA I am definitely going to keep a long zoom in my bag at all times :).

Calgary By The River

The river that runs through Calgary is rather low now and there was a massive area for me to walk out on to get this picture. It was just me and a couple Canadian Geese hanging out shooting photos :). I actually got a picture with those guys in it, but I’ll post that one another day ;).

Calgary North & The Rockies

I shot this photo a couple of days ago when I was out getting a skyline shot. I had been searching for a vantage point from the east side of town looking west and found a 6 or 7 story high parking garage. My first attempt at getting in the garage was unsuccessful, as the stairwell at the front entry was locked. I kept looking around and saw a walk way between the garage and the building it was attached too, so I checked it out. The walk way led me to a side entry to the garage and from there I found another stairwell at the back corner, thankfully this one was open!

Once I got to the top of the garage I set up and quickly started shooting photos. I figured at any time I could get kicked out of there, since people from their offices could see me. At first I was just shooting the downtown skyline, then I noticed the sun was shinning on the mountains in the NW direction. Just then I started to feel a few rain drops! I quickly ran over to the other end of the garage to get the right vantage point and shot a few frame before it started pouring. Got this one just in the nick of time! 🙂

Run For It!

As you may know from my last post I was out on a little country drive on Friday. While I was driving I noticed a group of Elk & Deers on the side of the road up a hill, however they were to far to get a good picture, since the longest focal length lens I had on me was a Canon 70-300mm DO IS. Then about 50 yards down the road on the other side I noticed another group of Elk/Deer grazing a lot closer and to top it off there was a place for me to pull over! I quickly pulled in and grabbed my camera which was sitting on the seat next to me, jumped out and started shooting. I started whistling at them in the hopes to get a little action out of them. One of the deer didn’t like the whistling much at all and started running for it! The next thing I knew they were all bouncing across the field toward the fence, and once they got there they just started leaping over it like it was nothing! Amazing, to say the least. I grabbed a few more shots as they ran up the hill to joint their pals and then I hopped back in my car and drove back to the city. Sometimes living in Canada aint all that bad ;).
