His First Real Camera

I gave my 6 year old son Cameron his first real camera today. He had been asking me for one for the past 6 months and he was very clear he wanted one like mine with a proper viewfinder, so no point and shoots would do. I told him I would be keeping my eye out for a good deal on a camera for him and today was the day. Cameron is now the happy owner of a good old Canon 20D! A camera I have a lot of experience with, as I shot one for a very long time back in the 20D days. He loves the camera and I think it will suit him just fine while he dips his toes into the wonderful world of photography.

When I gave Cameron the camera he was super excited and happy! I quickly showed him the basics and he ran out the door to shoot photos. I caught up with him about 45 minutes later and he was still wondering around the block taking pictures. We passed by this tree and he ask me to hold his camera. He shot up the tree, I gave him is camera back and he started taking pictures of this dog that was sitting in the grass. I’d say he’s got the right idea about getting a unique shot. Who knows, we just might have another photographer in the family. ๐Ÿ™‚

Rugby Wedding: Lindsay & Vinny

Clearly Lindsay and Vinny both love Rugby! Oh and their cute dog, who played a big part in their wedding. When I first met with Lindsay and Vinny they told me they wanted to do some type of Ruby wedding shots and right away I was excited, because I had never done any wedding shots like that and I knew it would be fun. When wedding time came around it wasn’t often I didn’t see that ruby ball kicking around and their dog was definitely there for everything too. Lindsay and Vinny were super fun and easy to work with. Their wedding party and parents were a joy to be around and I think we all had a wonderful time together!

Doggie from a Walk

rob moses exif data canon t2i tamron 17-50mmOn Sunday I went to this cool Instagram meet up put on by @YYCinstameets. Everyone met up by the store down the street from my house and then we all went on a photo walk around my neighbourhood. It was pretty cool! This cute little doggy came along for the trip and I snapped this shot of him at the end of the walk.

Since this was an Instagram thing I figured I’d just share my Instagram picture from the day rather than a bunch of pictures here :). If your on Instagram, give me a follow and I’ll follow you back!

Fetch

Canon 5D mark iii 70-300mm DO IS exif data

I was driving by this park the other day and I had never seen it before. As I drove I could see it was rather hilly, so I decided to take a little drive around to see if there was any good photos to be had. I landed on this location and thought I might get a good skyline shot. Then this lady started playing fetch with her dog. Perfect! With out that dog in the shot it would be a little boring. Nothing like a bit of mans best friend to spice up a photo ;).

Floating Around in the Fog

Camera: Canon 5D mark iii & 16-35L ii at 35mm ~ Settings: f/2.8 – 1/400th – ISO 2500

It has been rather foggy around Calgary these days. Yesterday I decided to take a picture of myself on the path in front of my house. My original idea was to shoot a photo of me just standing in the path with my camera and I did that. When reviewing the photos on the cameras LCD I thought the photo could use a little extra zip, and the idea to jump popped into my head. I think the levitating look adds a real fun element to the shot.

I used a Canon RC-1 remote on a 2 second timer to trigger my camera which was on a tripod behind me. I shot about a dozen of these, because I had to make sure I jumped right at the perfect time to be in the air when the shutter clicked. I also didn’t want my clothes to look like they were flapping around either. At first I was wearing a hoody on while doing this, but it just didn’t look right. It was only after the fact that I noticed my shirt matched my lens haha. Just good luck there.

As for the second shot, since I was clearly taking up the whole path way I had the opportunity to say hello to a few people from the neighbourhood. I snapped a quick shot of this friendly guy and his dog as they walked by. Nothing like getting in people’s way to spark up a little dialog. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bit Of A Challenge

Camera: Canon 6D & 70-200mm f/2.8 at 200mm ~ Settings: f/11 – 1/320th – ISO 400

So the other day fellow photographer and blogger Steve Boer (www.steveboer.com) passed on 5 day black and white photo challenge to me. The idea is to post black and white photos for 5 days straight. I love black and white, but there aint no way I’m posting 5 black and white shots back to back haha. So I told him I’d post one for one day and that’s the best could do. However, I decided to post 2 (on one day).

With all that said, onto the pictures. These two photos were clearly shot on different days. The first one was shot on a more mild day and the 2nd one a much more cold day (yesterday). You could probably guess from the snow on the ground and the guys ski goggles! lol. This is how I feel about biking, if it’s so cold you gotta strap on the ol ski goggles to take a cruise, then it’s to damn cold for biking! ;).

PS, Although these types of challenges are fun, I probably won’t make a habit of doing them when passed on to me.ย Just an FYI so I don’t hurt anyones feeling in the future.ย

When I shot this photo I had posted my self up at the turning point of this path. This way I could see who was coming up the stairs and decide if I wanted to take their picture or not. I saw thing guy walking up and waited for him to look directly at me before I took the picture. It’s fun to get the people looking right at you from time to time when shooting in the street :).

The woman in the second picture actually stopped and talked to me for a moment and I was happy to meet her and her little Westie! Those little doggies just happen to be my favourite kind.

On my way home yesterday evening I made a quick stop to shoot a few photos. This girl ran right by me on the sidewalk before she looped around in front of my lens. I noticed right away that her dog was carrying a piece of wood in his mouth haha. I guess it would be a good thing to have if the opportunity to play came up :).

Buster Doggy

This is my neighbours little doggy, “Buster”. I took these pictures during the summer while we were having a bit of a block party. The cat he is playing with is my cat and his name is “Mittens” haha. I know, I know, I didn’t choose that name, trust me! ;).

Dogs Like To Run Too!

I was driving home the other day a long this street that has a great view of the city. While I was driving I noticed this girl running with her dog. The dog caught my eye because he looked so happy to be out running. I kept driving and thought it might make a good picture if I could get them both in the frame, so I decided to pull over and see if I could get the shot. Just as I got my camera ready they came running by and I snapped this photo.
