When I walked into the Underground Music record store in Kelowna I expected to see plenty of records and maybe some CD’s. What I did not expect to see what’s rows of cassette tapes for sale! When I saw the tapes I was shocked!
This one tape with an old Toyota and Japanese writing on it caught my eye. I thought maybe it was from the Japanese animation comic book (and arcade game) Initial D. I asked the girl working there if that’s what the tape was and she kindly looked up the tape and it turns out it is the cover art for the musician “Beck”! I couldn’t believe it. It’s such a great cover that I am thinking it might go back and see if they have the record so I can just frame it and hang it up.
Anyhow, back to the tapes. How on earth are people buying and listening to tapes in 2024! I talked to the girl working at the store and she said even SHE listens to tapes! I asked if people were using “Walkmans” again, but she said that is a little more rare as they are quite expensive now. I believe she was talking about actual Sony Walkmans. But either way, just the fact people are busing out tapes again is crazy lol. I like it though. Maybe I’ll try one out again just for old time sake, probably not, but if I see a cheap walkman, I’ll grab it and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

YES!
You got a walkman laying around Carlos? LOL
😂
What’s old is new again, but isn’t it crazy?!
So crazy! 😄
I can attest: they´re still around 😉 Wonderfully anachronistic!
Awesome! I gotta try one out.
I was reading about the resurgence of cassette tapes a while back. I hadn’t expected a come back of cassette tapes either.
Ya it’s wild how somethings just come back around hey haha. Like I saw the NBA Star Steph Curry walking into the game yesterday in Bellbottoms! 😄
We have box of old cassette tapes when we moved. Don’t ask me which box. We also have a couple of blank metal tapes … somewhere. We do have a cassette tape machine connected to our home theater system.
Oh no way haha. Before I walked into that store I couldn’t remember the last time I saw a tap. I am curious to hear how they sound now though.
Thanks for sharing this idea Anita
Anytime! 🙂
