Kelowna BC on Fire!

I don’t even know what to say about this picture. In the afternoon the McDougall Creek wildfire was just on the other side of that mountain and smoke was flying into the sky like it was coming out of a cannon. I never thought it would start burning down this side of the mountain towards the city. Once the fire started coming down the mountain I just grabbed my camera and went to capture the moment.

This isn’t the type of thing I ever want to see, but it’s happening right where I live so I had to get some photos of it. Even now as I look out my front window of my living room I can see the flames burning down the mountain. It’s so sad.

The fire jumped the lake and started burning on this side of town. Friends of ours have been evacuated from their home as the flames were literally across the street from their house. They came here and are sleeping in my sons bedroom. I really hope we get some good news tomorrow morning and hear that their house is still there. It’s nearly 2am here now, so I better get to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

  1. Wow!!! That is really frightening! Hope the city was spared, and you and all are safe. We are watching the news about Hawaii, as we vacationed some years ago, in what is now the fire-related destruction. Yikes! M

    • Oh hey man, sorry I never saw your comment before. Ya the fire was nuts! Most of the damage was on the otherside of the lake. I live on the downtown side and the fire never made it downtown, so I’m thankful for that. But a lot of people did loose their houses over there, so that’s sad. But considering how big the fire was, I think we did ok.
