The Beach – Playa Del Carmen

exif data rob moses canon 6d 70-200mm f4 isThis is part of the beach in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. While I was down there, we were staying about 20 minutes away from here and we came into the town a few times. On this day I ended up ditching my camera in my car and hit the open sea! I love swimming around in naturally warm water, it makes me want to move to Tampa or something! If I lived some where with this kind of beach, I can’t image many days I wouldn’t want to be there.

Melissa for Coffee

Lens: Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 @ 1.2

This is Melissa, she is one of the realtors I work with. Yesterday I heard her say she was heading to a coffee shop by our office, so I cased her down so I could get a picture of her. She didn’t want to have her picture taken since I didn’t give her any warning, but I insisted :). I took this right in front of the coffee shop and I shot a few frames. Melissa actually preferred another shot I took of her where she wasn’t smiling so much. I thought she looked so happy in this picture, so I decided to use this one anyhow haha.

Someone To Talk To

I was out shooting some street photography this weekend in Calgary. I saw this guy on a street corner and couldn’t help but notice his mannequin head sticking out of his shopping cart haha. I imagine him walking around talking to this head, but I don’t know, I could be way off! All’s I know, is if I was walking around with a mannequin head all day I’d probably start talking to it haha.

I am not really in the habit of asking people if I can take their picture on the street, I usually just do it. However, when you run into a guy with a head sticking out of his shopping cart and a sharp ski poll on the side of it, better just ask a brotha haha. So in this case I did just that and the guy was more than happy to let me take a picture. It’s nice to see someone who can be having that ruff of a go at life still be able to smile when seeing the joy some one else get’s from their little eccentricities.

I hope things turn around for this guy! Good luck out there you two ;).

3 Buddies in the City

Yesterday my sons and I caught the train from our neighbourhood to one of the neighbouring areas to mix up our urban routine. Naturally I had my camera with me and shot a few photos through out the afternoon. Our original idea was to check out some candy stores I knew of in the area, however they were both close. In replacement of candy we got rice crispy squares, pumpkin loaf and coffee (only I had the coffee haha). We hang out at a table on the street, enjoyed our snacks and took in the city as it should be taken, with good company and good coffee! ;).

Crosswords While Walking

I was walking across the Centre Street Bridge here in Calgary the other day and I saw this guy walking up the bridge doing a crossword puzzle while walking! I put my camera up to my face and kept walking in his direction waiting for him to put his face up to see where he was going like a whale in the sea bobbing up for air haha. As soon as that face popped up, CLICK! Gotchya! And I just kept on walking haha. His facial expression is hilarious, because he seems to be confused as to why there is a camera in his face rather than another zombie faced pedestrian haha. I love these little street photography interactions with people :).

American Eagle in BC

I just stumbled upon this picture yesterday evening (in my files) and it was the first time I really took a good look at it haha. I shot this photo while out on a walk in Castlegar, British Columbia. I was only able to get a 4 or 5 shots of him before he flew away. Unfortunately I only had my 70-200mm with me at the time of this sighting, however I was able to do a rather harsh crop job on the photo for it to look ok haha. On my next trip back to BC or WA I am definitely going to keep a long zoom in my bag at all times :).

Friendly Squirrels

There are some baby squirrels that live a tree in front of our house and they are super friendly. The other day we noticed our neighbour feeding the babies by hand, so my son Joshua went to go check it out. Amazingly the squirrels were extremely friendly and had no problem eating right out of his hand. Pretty cool :).

A Walk in Chinatown

I was in Chinatown the other day here in Calgary and I took a few street shots. I decided to shoot 35mm just to mix things up a little and force my self to get a little closer to my subjects. I definitely prefer 50 over 30, but it’s fun to get a little closer every now and then.

Dogs Like To Run Too!

I was driving home the other day a long this street that has a great view of the city. While I was driving I noticed this girl running with her dog. The dog caught my eye because he looked so happy to be out running. I kept driving and thought it might make a good picture if I could get them both in the frame, so I decided to pull over and see if I could get the shot. Just as I got my camera ready they came running by and I snapped this photo.

Pipe Smoke’n Old Guy

I was walking down the street and noticed this old guy puff’n on his pipe outside of a bar. I immediately pictured the shot in black and white and thought it might be half decent. So I walked up to him and asked if I could take his picture, he nodded, put his pipe in his mouth and looked right into the lens. Perfect pose and a look like he’d done it before ;).

When A Bird Hits Your Window

Like I said last week, I’m mot much of a bird photographer. However when a bird comes flying into your living room window full speed ahead, you get your bird photographer hat on in a hurry! As was the case of this little guy. I was just changing the lens on my camera to go shoot another photo in my basement, when I heard a loud thud on my window. My first thought was maybe some kids accidentally hit my window with a ball or something. When I looked out I saw this little bird laying on  my deck.

At first I just went out to see if he was ok, he kind of hopped up and moved over a little. The bird then sat there with his mouth open, opening and closing his eyes. The scene made me think of the Family Guy clip when Peter fell and hurt his knee haha. Since I  had my camera ready to go I went and grabbed it and shot a few photos. He stayed on my deck for over 5 minutes (I even had time to change lenses), then he started hopping away. I followed him to see if he was going to be able to fly away. The bird eventually hopped across the street and into some bushes where he just sat there, I decided I’d better just leave him alone at that point and let him rest and gather him self. I’ll go check on him later to see if he made it out of there. I hope so!

UPDATE: I went back to check if he made it out of the little spot he had in the bush and he was no where to be seen, so I am assuming he rested, gathered himself and got back to flying into other peoples windows 😉
