RU ORE

This sign has seen better days. The signs sad state caught my attention and I figured it was deserving of a picture. The funny thing is I’m pretty sure this drug store was still open for business haha. I can’t imagine a situation where I would let my sign just keep falling apart and not do anything about it. I guess maybe they got bigger fish to fry.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

  1. Such a good one, Rob. I like to find these signs when they are lit up (or not) at night. Sometimes you have to sit there and wonder what the missing letters are! I see you there in the doorway! 📸

  2. The sign appears to be neon-like based on the discharge tubes used for the lettering. Generally, neon discharges in red. If this is the case, the storeowner probably opted not to repair the lettering. While neon is abundant in the universe, it is not so much here on Earth. It’s classified as a rare earth (where we have heard that before) and most of the natural neon reserves are found in eastern Ukraine and along the Ukrainian-Russian border. Neon is generally made from cryogenic air liquefaction, a rather expensive process.

  3. Hahaha! Good one Rob!

It does look still in business.

Years ago there was a coffee & donuts place across the street. As smoking regulations got tougher, they had to put in a special enclosed, smoking area. The picture windowed smoking area was always full of people, and full of smoke. There was a neon Coffee Time sign in the window of the smoking room. The EE’s were burned out, and it said Coff___Time.

    Thanks for the hilarious memory!
